Cool what size tires

dont know if this has been answered yet (probably has, to lazy to search) but what size 17'' inch tires will fit an 88 gxl. i just bought some 17 x 7's from a guy and i need to know the correct tire size. Thanx for any info, and sorry for being lazy!

The right size I guess would be 205/50/17 or so. 205 is the important part. How low of profile do you want. Personally I would run some 215/45/17s.

also, i have some new 15 X 6 1/2 rims. right now i have some 195/60/15

how wide can i go on the 6 1/2 inch rims?

195s sound about right. Might be able to go 205. Best place to ask about this stuff is in the wheels/tires section. Rishie(ARD T2) can answer all these questions.

wild: a friend of mine is running (on a non-RX-7) 195/55-15 on 5.5" wide wheels. It works OK, but it really could use wider rims. I'd say not to go wider than 215 on 6.5" rims. 215/55-15 would be about the right diameter but I do not know if they even make tires in that size, you might have to go back to 205/60 (OE size) or jump to 225/55 (not really enough rim for it).

aspect ratio has a lot to do with it, too. the lower the aspect ratio, the wider the tread for a given section width and the wider the rim needs to be. i have successfully run 245/60s on 15x6 rims with no problems. when you research tires, check what the tire manufacturer recommends is a safe rim width for a given tire size. online stores like discount tire direct and tire rack will show you this info on their sites. also, the manufacturer's sites that i have seen will also give you the recommended rim width info.
