What size tire?

Alright. I am picking up a set of 15" OEM wheels to do the 5-lug conversion on my car. I don't have the money to invest in 16" or 17" aftermarket wheels simply b/c the tires will run me way too much to do all at once.

I am going to buy new tires to put on the 15s though. What size do you think I should put on it?

I was considering either 215/60/15, 225/50/15, 225/55/15, or 225/60/15

Price means alot, but tire quality means more. I would rather spend an extra $10 per tire to get a better quality.

Currently I am running a 215/60/14 on the stock rims I have now. I think the 215 looks good, but it is too much tire for the rim and is squishy.

What size and make/model tire would you guys recommend. I will probably either order them from Tirerack or find a local shop to pricematch an online price at least. Gotta save that cash.

I think the 15's are the same width as the 14's, so a 215 will still look squishy unless you get a shorter side wall (which will look bad because it won't fill the wheel well) or you can find a tire with a really stiff sidewall, but those tend to be more expensive. The stiffest sidewall I've dealt with is probably the Potenza S-03, which cost an absurd amount of money. My friend had some Yokahama Parada Spec 2's that had some stiff walls as well and cost less than the S-03's.

The 15" rims I thought were either .5" or 1.0" wider than the 14" wheels.

If I am wrong, then you are definitely right. But I could've sworn I saw a couple FCs with 15" OE wheels and 215 or 225 on them that looked good, not massively overlapping the wheel.

You could probably get a tire store to try on different tire sizes to see what you like. They want to do what they can for you to keep you coming back to the same store.

nobody else has a suggestion?

Just for the record, I don't take my FC to the track, it is just my weekend vehicle, go to nicer events in it, stuff like that. So, super low-profile tires aren't needed b/c I wouldn't take full advantage of the added handling.

I do drive quite spiritedly on the occasion, so a decent quality tire is necessary.

Most 16" tires aren't more than 15" tires, and very few cars run 15's now.

If it were 15's, get 225/50/16's as they are a common tire size for a lot of cars.  Decent tires in that size are easily under $100.

Ted,

I realize that some 16" tires are close in price to the 15" tires, but the price of wheels is alot more. I plan on running these 15" wheels for one summer and then upgrading next spring. I have to do the bushing kit, 5-lug conversion and who knows how much more brake work once I get in there (possibly lines, etc.) and I can't swing it all at once. But, I don't want to sit and buy one piece at a time and have parts just laying around my shop collecting dust while I wait.

The 5-lug + wheels + tires can add up quickly. The 5-lug should run around $150, the wheels I am getting are $175 shipped for all 4, and the tires I am looking at are around $70 each mounted and balanced. The 225/50/16 tires I looked at were right around the same price, give or take a couple bucks, but the wheels are like $100-300 more for a set.

If I could find a good set of 16" wheels cheap enough, I would gladly go that route.

Duh, that didn't make any sense.
It should say...

If you are strapped for cash, I think 205/50/15 is the recommended size for 15's?

thanks Ted, that cleared it up

Actually, O.D. wise...the 215/55/15 is the exact same diameter as the stock size was, for speedometer sake.

Plus they are like $51 a tire for the Kumho 711

Anyone have any feedback on that tire on an FC or FB?

I had the 215/55/15 Kumhos on my vert BBS rims and they lasted me less than 9000kms, they were bald down to the wires at that point
