What is my sub-model?

Hi I have an 87 FC with a vin in the 500000 Range and I can not figure out if it is the GXL or the "Sport Package". The old owner has no idea and from the spec sheets I am not sure. https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/specifications-what-did-2nd-generation-rx-7-come-w-options-standard-features-642372/ I DO NOT have power windows and doors, not the adjustable headrest. This makes me think it is the sport package, I want to know if I have a limited slip diff and AAS or not.

if you have AAS, you will have a selector for it just ahead of the center console. your car sounds like a sport. do you have a black rear spoiler? pics would be cool

I do have a black rear spoiler but I am pretty sure it is aftermarket. It's basically a park bench sitting on my trunk. I do not have an AAS selector and I take it that the sport didn't have limited slip so what is "Sport tuned suspension" mean? I will add some pics in a few minutes (there on my camera).

If I could guess, I would say that it is a base model that was converted to 5-lug wheels. It has what looks like the Mariah wing, and a home-made hood scoop.

With respect to all used RX-7's, even if you know the model type, there is no telling what the previous owners did to the car. You can at least figure out what your car WAS by looking at the "FB" number inside the door jam. It will be FB01 or something like that.

AAS will have an AAS switch in the center console, and if you open your hood you would be able to see wires leading to the top of the shock towers.

An LSD should have a yellow "LSD" tag on the fill plug. You could also check by spinning the wheels, but it is most likely that the clutch is shot because hardly anybody bothers to replace it.

save for the wing and the hood scoop, the car looks really nice. i would tend to bet its a repaint due to the fact that in 87, the only RX-7 that could be sold in brilliant black was the turbo. but who knows, perhaps a few others might have slipped through the cracks. whats the paint code on the vin plate on the right side of the firewall?

Could we see the underside of the hood please?
I'm curious about that scoop.

My car is almost completely original parts and has 230k+ on it. I am astonished that the thing runs as strong as it does. I tried doing doughnuts in the rain and I could spin the tires and slide easily enough, but it was nothing compared to a '68 Dodge Charger I used to drive with a locking diff. THAT is why I am curious. I wili go take some more pics for the ppl who asked, Give me 30min.

Yes sir it is... The only reason I have left it there is because it will pull cold air through. Plus it has kind of grown on me... like a fungus.

just jack on the rear end to see if you got a LSD (or do a burnout and see if you got 2 marks)

was this car on sacramento craigslist?

I'm not sure if it was listed on Craigslist. I was walking past it and saw it was for Sale @ 3k but I only Paid $1100. It doesn't really feel like it has an LSD so the burnout idea is probably what I am going to try. I can just have a friend look to see if both tires are spinning.

So I take it the consensus is that this is a "sport package" rx with some aftermarket body work?? If I were to do a carfax search on my vin will it show me a sub model? Thanks For everyone's input.

I DO NOT believe the steering wheel is adjustable and I do not have the adjustable head rest either. So it is a sport model, did that come with 5-lug wheels stock or did a previous owner convert it?

Evil Avatar Told me (FC05) is not an American Model, and it might be a Canadian GS. Considering the French writing I just noticed on my door sticker I think he's right on. I am going to have to call Mazda or something to find out more.

sport vs. base

I have an 87 n/a "sport". Other than the spoiler what is different about the sport model?

From what I understand the "sport" is a base model with a "sport tuned suspension", front/side air deflectors 15" wheels and AC/Sunroof was optional.

Supposedly according to that sticker, he has 15" rims. 205/60VR15 So that might be stock rims on that car. Also has rear bins I see.

There were no 205/60R15 in 4 lugs, so it must be a 5-lug originally.
