Oil viscosity depends on what your daily operating temps outside are.
Most people use (and the Mazda shop manual suggests for S4 cars) 20W50 if starting and operating above 20F.
If starting and operating below 80F and above -10F use 10W30
5W30 should only be used in starting and driving temps of under 30F.
5W30, 10W40, and 10W50 should be avoided (due to increased polymers to get the viscosity range with lower base oils) in modern high reving motors and two stroke motors if possible.
brand new the stock non-Turbo (NA) motor produced 146 HP at the flywheel with 138 Ft/lbs at 3500 RPM.
In the future you may wish to use the search function of this page found in the upper right hand corner, as both your questions have been covered countless times and is also found in the owners and shop manuals.

You can find an online shop manual at this site under How-To's/Manual. The 1988 manual will work for nearly everything on your car, as the 86-88 models are mechanically similar.

If you are looking for brand names, I use Castrol GTX, which is probably the most common brand used in rotaries. I also change my engine oil and filter every 3,000 miles for street driving conditions. The rotary engine normally burns about 1 qt of oil every 3,000 miles, so you will be about a qt low at this point, anyway.
