Red face What HID kit to buy?

I'm looking to get HID's in my 90 gtu. Have no clue about these things and am looking for info.

Do I need to make sure and purchase a certain type of kit that includes certain pieces?

Are there any companies to avoid?

Anyone point me to a good kit with good price?

What K do you guy use/like?

thanks
Rob

Check out Need-a-t2's GB on his headlight conversion kit and have him get you the Hella HID options. That is the BEST way to go. Any aftermkt HID kit is going to be illegal and a chinese POS. FWIW, I have the chinese POS until it pops. I got it on trade with some parts that I didn't need so it didn't cost me a dime

Most HID kits are the same, it doesn't matter really. I use Ollo myself. Make sure you get some good housings though. I bought some from Hella.

If you want a plug and play HID kit they are all made about the same.

They have them on ebay for $70 including shipping.

For a proper kit i don't know.

First you need to get new Light housings for the RX7. The stock lights are sealed beams and you can change the bulbs.

They sell them on ebay all the time for cheap. Just get one that gives you an H4 bulb.

Then all you need is any standard H4 HID kit. You can get them for under $70 for a single and about $100 for a bi-xenon.

Thanks. I got the Hi/Lo 10000k from them.

For anyone interested... I ended up getting some glass Wagner housings from summit. Looks to be good quality and great price.

I was't feelin' the look of all those cheap ones on eBay.

I think you got the one that's a sealed beam not an 200mm H4 housing.
Autopal headlamps are good quality on ebay just search for autopal.

Get the Hella's from summitracing or Rallylights.com and be DONE with it. Why chance some chinese piece of **** that may have a ridiculously horrible light pattern to save a few bucks. Do it once, do it right, or don't do it at all.

Go Here - $39.43 EACH without bulbs or get one of thier kits with some real bulbs and not some 10000000000000k blue nasty bulb that won't help you see any better. Don't believe me, call 'em up. You'll see better for less $$ but you won't have the neon blue light. I dunno, maybe that's the form you want and the function of visibility isn't as important to you as it is to me.

Ditto both of them.

10000K bulbs are going to be REAL blue almost purple. And VERY VERY VERY hard on the eyes. As well as cops magnets.

If possible i would call them up and see if you can change it to 4300k or 5000k max.

Good advice. 6000k I believe is almost pure white, 4300 is what most FACTORY HID's are.

Doing it right involves retrofitting projectors in the housing because no matter what kind of housing you use, HID bulbs in a 6054 type housing will cause all kinds of distracting/blinding glare to other drivers in both directions... the only difference is some aren't as bad as others.

*sigh*

read my ORIGINAL post - go get Need-a-t2's headlight conversion kit and have him order you the Hella 90MM moduales built for HID. Says right there on this site that the low beams are legal and DOT approved. No retrofitting, no cutting, just a little wiring and you have LEGAL better looking headlights that retain OEM HID characteristics.

end sigh

Correct, 4300k is the factory HID color for most cars, it is also the brightest HID color and the esiest on the eys.

6000k is a little blue, not much but a tad.

5000k is about pure white but not quite as bright as 4300k.

I have both 4300K and 5000K on my cars right now, I prefer the 4300k. I used to have some of the other color but got rid of all of them, they are just hard on everyone.

Also, keep in mind that HID's get bluer after they break in (about 700hours use) by about 20%. So if you get a 4300k then after it breaks in it will be a 5000k bulb.

the higher the K the more bluish there going to look and the lower the number the more whitish it will be.

For example

like bmw's and such have i believe a 4300k which is pretty much pure white

I like 6000k, It has a light blueish tint

When are people going to learn?
a) You get what you pay for
b) Any conversion kit that is not an actual HID bulb base is illegal
c) Putting shitty rebased HID bulbs into shitty housings is going to result in HORRIBLE beam pattern. I'd rather have less lumens and better pattern that light scattered all over the place
d) Having illegal lights could result in getting your car impounded.
e) People with shitty HID lights coming at me make me angry, if I have the means I would destroy all crappy conversions
f) Blue light looks like ****, doesn't help you see better, just degrades the car by putting you square in the rice category
g) People need to learn more and spend less $$
h) I would bet that visibilty would be better with some really nice halogen bulbs in the Hella replacement housings that some shitty rebased H4 HID system is some shitty piece of **** chinese housing.

Do some research. There is an actual forum dedicated to HID lights and conversions. Start in the Archieve, Icemark has more experience and done more tests than you could possible concieve. Learn a little bit before you start believing internet hype about HIDs. Realize that a decent conversion will cost you hundreds if done from used parts and thousands if done from new and the difference in beam pattern and safety is probably not worth it to most.

For the last time, a good housing with a GREAT halogen bulb will give you better light, and be safer for everyone than the ******* hack way that most are talking about here.

Can't that just be summed up as "Caveat emptor" buyer beware?
