I am stumped..... This car is pissing me off......


OK..... I am gonna rebuild a motor in a friends 86 GXL......

The car is in REAL good condition....... It was owned by Mary Kay, before my friend.....

So, it only has 98 thousand miles on it...... But she had it sitting in her garage, and would drive it around every now and then.... so the belts were old and brittle..... and he let his son drive it.... Well his son went to the mall, and on the way back on the highway, he blew the belt s for the water pump...... but still drove it all the way home...... it over heated..........

so my friend replaced the belts, and went to start it up thinking nothing would be wrong...... But it wouldnt start, so he went to the junk yard, and bought another set of coils, cpu, relays out the ***, alternator, air pump, AFM, EVERYTHING he could take off..... Any ways... he found out he could push start it, and it would start, but white smoke out the exhaust...... so I told him its the water o-ring that went.... letting water into the combustion chamber.......... And so I guess I am gonna rebuild it..... He says he knows where he can get side housings from..... and that he would when I start.....


I am wondering if thats all it could be???? I am guessing it is.....


Also.... why wouldnt it start up by turning the key??? too much water? should I drain it and try to start it?

and.... the window doesnt roll dow on the passanger side..... but the drivers does...... the sunroof works though.... they are all electric...... and the head lights flip up but dont turn on..... and the horn doesnt work..... I have a feeling all this is being cause by a relay somewhere.... I have checked the fuses..... they are all good..... what do you think it is???

Oh yeah.........

As some of you know, I am a first gen. guy..... And I know JACK SCHIT about 2nd gens.... So I need your help.... I have poored through the manual... with no luck....


Oh yeah... and it turns over pretty slow....... and when I give it gas, it wants to stop turning over...... why is that??? THANX SO MUCH PEOPLES laterz.. Andrwe

 

PLEASE I still cant figure it out.... I am gonna try to find out why it turns over so slow.... and why when I hit the gas, it chugs.... like the timing is off... hmmm , maybe it is..... ANYONE??? THANX LATERZ< Andrew

 

I had a similar problem when I bought my car. I had to tow it home, it would not start. While trying to start it look in the radiator cap, or resevior. If it is bubbling it the o-ring. It sounds like it's time for a rebuild. I don't know what else could be wrong, but you will probably spend more money on trying to fix a lost cause. I say rebuild or buy a junkyard engine. I hope the housings were not warped. Good luck!

 

THANX..... I am gonna rebuild it.... I just wondered why his window, and headlights, and horn didnt work.... And why it turns over SOOOO SLOWWW on a fully charged battery...... I am lost, and have no clue.... I figure since you can push start it, it might start off the starter if it would turn fast enough...... dunno.... I am about to go push start it, and hope that it starts, and I dont have to push it ALLL the way back up the hill I live on...... Any other suggestions???

Nope sorry... NICE SUPER SHINEY RED..... With some dents being owened by a lady and all...

 

Yeah.... he aquired the car when he painted her house here in dallas.... like 3-4 months ago or somtin...... And then she died, before she paid.... And her daughter took over, and payed him ALOT of money, and was offered the rex for partial payment....(only $1000) And it was almost PERFECT....... Just need some matience... that he failed to attend to ASAP.....
