what the heck ?!?!?!

k so i got my rx-7 about 3 weeks ago, and just yesterday the car starts bogging out like crazy as if it is almost dying, go take of in 1st gear and half throttle and it barely moves. my buddy says it could be the fuel pump or fuel filter but i have no clue.... also i try to rev it up goes to about 2000 rpm then i push more and it drops... its an 86 gx. thanks guys

Kinda an open-ended question.

Good compression?
How does it free rev?
How does it start?
How does it idle?
What's your exhaust like? cat?
What were you messing with before this started?

It does sort of sound like fuel starvation. I'd start by testing voltage at the pump, then check the sock(filter on pump), then figure out how much pressure it's putting out. "T" your gauge into the return line. Might be worth it to check the high pressure filter too just to make sure it's not a restriction.

Best of luck with it.

If you don't know how long ago the fuel filter was changed, odds are you should probably change it. People go through so much trouble all the time and it just ends up being the fuel filter. It's a harsh mistress.

There's a SLIGHT chance it is TPS related, what with the rpms dropping at 2000. So, to prove or disprove that thought, disconnect the TPS plug and then go rev the engine. If it acts about the same as it did before, then it's not the TPS at all.

NOTE: The TPS cuts fuel anytime you let go of the throttle while driving. So it's a possibility that there is a dead spot or short internal to the tps that makes it think you let off the pedal. There's about a ten percent chance that is your problem. It only takes a minute of less to disconnec the tps plug and try it out. No cost involved.

When you're driving, does it feel like it accelerates smoothly to about 2k-3k rpm, and then it FEELS like you've lifted your foot off the gas? If so you should check for clogged exhaust... Clogged cat's to be specific.

Good luck.
