Talking What Happened? Headlights stuck up!

Hey guys,

So I really have no idea what happened. Perhaps it is coincidence but this is exactly why I like doing all the work myself on my 7.

Took my car to get it inspected. Passed. Guy says he doesn't know what happened, headlights won't go down. I think the guy just doesn't know what he's doing or something because my headlights have always worked fine. Nope.

Headlights won't go down now. What should I try to troubleshoot this? Please be as specific as possible (i.e. where switches, fuses, manual overrides, etc are and how to use them.)

What do you think the problem could be? I did notice that the arm to hold the hood up was UNDER the passenger side headlight - could this have messed it up?

Cheers,

There is a **** on the left side of the dashboard that will allow you to make the headlights stay up even while they are off. Make sure you accidentally didn't hit it.

It seems too coincidental that both of your headlight motors could've gone out at once, and i doubt you'd have such a random electrical problem.

I do appreciate your replies guys but NO, I have turned the **** many times. The headlights work, along with my brights but when I turn the **** all the way "off" nothing happens. No clicks, no sound of motors trying to run - nothing. What could cause both headlights to freak out on me like this?

EDIT: As far as I can tell everything else electrical is running fine but if you know what I might specifically check, then I'll have a look.

Check that the headlight switch didn't burn itself out?

You should be able to jumper the headlights like an automatic window *I THINK*, so you can verify that the motors aren't toast.

If all else fails, you can manually raise and lower the headlights by turning the motor's connection thinger, just make sure that there is no power going to the motor while you're lowering it by hand (they're known to kick in and complete the cycle)

Now all of this might be wrong, since i'm a previous FB owner, never owned an FC, but the principle is the same.

Check the FSM under Body Electrical to test the switch.

OK..besides the Headlight switch being able to Operate your Retractor motors UP and Down and Turning the lights On and OFF..above the Haedlight switch is the "headlight Clean' switch..if that switch is ON then the Lights will still Illuminate On and Off with the Headlight switch But they will Remain UP..if that is NOT the problem then Check your Retractor Motor Fuse.it is in the Engine bay on the FUSE Block..there are TWO fuses for Headlights there..One is For the headlights, and the other is For the Retractor Motors..If that is "popped" then you have no power to your Headlight Motors.

Not trying to be tiresome, but you do realize that there are TWO different ***** on the left side of the cluster that raise the headlights:-one that is the headlight switch. It makes the lights go up and down AND turn on.

The next **** up just makes the light move into the up position without turning on the lights.

If you tried both *****, then nevermind...

Thaaaaaaat's the stuff.

I really do feel stupid but I had never used the Headlight Clean switch before. Didn't even know it was there. The inspection guy must have hit it on accident and not known what he did.

Thanks for the help. Headlights work fine now.

Mine got stuck once. I just left the switch off so that the lights should go down and played with the manual ***** underneath until they went down by themselves. It was just a little stuck and needed oil.
