what is a good temp range for a gauge?

i am looking to buy an aftermarket temp gauge, and i am not sure what a good temp range would be becasue the factroy gague has no temps. any help?

most gauges have similar temps. i would say one that covers from 160-250 would be fine. you want to be running around 185ish i think. anything up to 230 is "safe" as long as it doesnt stay that hot.

no, but get an electrical one, much easier to install. I couldn't find many that went high enought though. definatly get one that goes up to 240-250F.

does autometer make an elec temp gauge that goes that high? i have all autometer and i would rather stick to the pattern if possible

well, i know they offer up to 250, would that be broad enough for me to get?

They make one that goes that high. It is in the mail for my '86.

I got them from www.carparts.com. If you search for discounts you can find 10% discounts or free shipping. Generally it is about the same when I bought the gauge and pod. Shipping was about 7$ and so was the 10% discount.

gauge sending units

Do the water temp gauges come with thier own sending unit? Where does one install the sending unit?

I am thinking of buying one of these, but I do not like the idea of getting the instructions in the box AFTER buying it.

the reason I didn't buy the autometer electric is because you can't read them... they are 1/4 or 1/2 sweep. with lines at like 50,125,250 or something. you have no idea what temp you are at even staring right at the gauge.

I picked up a nordskog from summit. $55usd with sender (buy seperate, autometer come with) it's a dig LCD and has memery recall. up to 300F. acurate to +/- 1 degree
