Get Racing Beat. I think its like 800 for a complete 3in. turbo back exhaust. Youll also need a fuel cut defender($100) Check it out at: www.racingbeat.com

I already had the DP so I just went with the HKS hiper cat-back. It is a large muffler, but it sounds deep and mean. The RB is nice but if you don't have the money I would go with HKS or Apexi(which are hard to find)

Mykl,

It looks like you have a convertible too. Was it noticeable when you added the RB exhaust? What else would you suggest? I'm only looking to add a little more performance to my car, it's all stock right now.

It had the exhaust when I bought the car, so I'm not sure what it felt like before and after. The only power mods that are on it would be a cone filter (I doubt that yields any extra hp) and the RB cat-back; the stock (burnt up) cats are still in place. Before my second gear syncros went to **** I was running consistent 16.4's at the track, I'm told that's a little quicker than stock.

If you want max power, with little concern for noise and legality, I hear wonderful things about the Mindtrain header/presilencer setup. However, it's a bit pricey at $600, but I'm told it's worth every penny. After that, add your favorite cat-back and you've got a full exhaust, I like the RB better than anything else I've seen. It fits the car perfectly, looks and sounds great and it blends in well with the rest of the car.

Another option, which is one that I would choose if I were to buy a full exhaust system would be to check out the Mazdatrix dual uncollected exhaust, header back. I think Racing Beat offers a similar setup.

If you want to remain street legal there are a lot of folks going with Bonez high flow cats. From what I've heard the Superflow system, that replaces all three cats doesn't fit the convertibles too well because of added support brace under the firewall. You can order just a main cat and have a pipe fabricated that will fit from the cat to the header. You could also go with an aftermarket header if you go this route.

Sorry if that seemed a bit long winded or if I repeated a few things you already knew. I just started typing and it kept pouring out...

Question

Hey guys, getting the headers and cat-back; was curious thou is it worth it if that will shorten even more the life of my engine(90' N/A with 145+miles)? Or would it just be better to hold till do good rebuild/ even mild street port? THX>>>>>>>

Mykl,

Thanks! That was a lot of good info. I took a look at the Bonez stuff and it seems they have two different systems that would work on my car. Maybe. Based on what you said though, I'm going to find out what they say about using it on the convertible. That along with the RB catback would be a pretty nice system. Does anyone have any idea what doing all of that plus an aftermarket intake would do for horsepower?

I actually prefer the single N1 and Bonez combo and not cause RP is close to where I live either I listened to several different types of exhaust combos, and how many HP they claimed to gain. I saw almost 40RWHP after swapping out my cats and cat back to the almost 3" single pipe.

Paul,

this may be a stupid question, but I don't know all that much about what's out there on exhaust systems yet. What's the single N1 you're talking about? How's the sound as far as loudness?

Bobr

The single N1 Im refering to is a single N1 muffler sticking out the back instead of having 2 mufflers hanging out back. The N1 set up also comes with a small pre muffler to help dampen the sound to a nice mellow tone. I prefer it over the RP 50MM and the Racing Beat one. It also will make more power than either of them and wieghs less than the OEM exhaust I took off. Im beating 20lbs at least if not closer to 30lbs.

Hope that helps. Ill get some pics of my car up here to show people eventually, but its ugly primer that some idiot put on way too think over the stock paint. Fourtunatly the mud from the road out to my place kinda hides the primer

I did some silly little mods that solve some problems too. Like nothing my hood so my wipers park much lower and out of my line of sight. Im trying to figure out a better way to push more air into the airbox right now, with out cutting too much metal.

if you get the RB exhaust and FCD make sure you upgrade your fuel system as you could be running almost double your boost and too much air not enough fuel = blown engine learn from my mistakes, I'd hate to see someone else in my position

the dual N1's do look cool I have to admit that maybe when I get a turbo car or mod mine with a T2 drive train

BTW Bobr look at 1fastt2's pic a single N1 is just one of those mufflers. Thats what I have.

That is a nice looking setup you guys have. Keep in mind I don't even have a turbo. This is an 88 stock convertible I just want a little more power from. Not gonna race it or anything. The convertibles tend to be a little slower because of the extra weight.

I have a Greddy Power Extreme on my 91 convertible and I love it. Great power increase and very aggressive looking and one of the most quiet systems out there. The only bad thing about it, is that it has a huge muffler and if your car is lower like my, you'll have a hell of a time getting over speed bumps.

Most catback systems come with a resognator(spelling sucks) and then the piping back to the muffler. That is if you go with a single. It is to help you with maintaining backpressure for low rpms. So if you want more power you can buy a hi flow cat, race pipe, or hollow out your main cat.
hope that answers your ?

sorry I was a little tired when I wrote that reply. The resognator is mainly to tame the noise of the muffler. The apexi and the hks are reliable companies that test their exhausts over and over to give you the best power increase all through the rpm's oh yeah I cant leave out RB. Those are the names that I trust.

Hey live4boost, how did you like the Hiper?
Do you know how it would compare with the N1?
How loud is it?

Thanks,
