Question What Exactly Is The Purpose Of The Split Air Pipe?

Is It used In conjunction of the 6 ports and/or the emissions. If removing It, what are the consequence for a 88 GXL?

It sends air from the air pump to the cat. Your idle emissions will be terrible

Also supplies pressure to your 5th and 6th port actuators. Removing the pipe would render the system inoperative.

unless some one has modified something the back pressure from the cat actuates the 6-ports. On the split air pipe there is a black rubber line about 1/4" dia. That feed air to the 6-port actuators.

It also has to do with emissions. (additional air is fed to the cat to complete combustion and convert one kind of nasty to a different kind).

I plan on using an RPM Switch an old EGR Solenoid to have full functioning, non backpressure opening 6 ports. Their Is no way my ports are opening up considering I have a RB Header and S.S Brullen and Cat set up.

I have the PR Inserts In my sleeves. So If the removal of the Split Air Pipe will create a terrible Idle than I will just leave It on.

my ports open and Im running a header and a super flow dynomax cat and I also had many bad vacume lines too. Do th egrease check on yor actuators . put some grrease on the rods and take it for a hard drive then check to see if the grease has moved if it did then they are working. If not check your actuators to see if they are working as in holding vacume.

I was told it just keeps clean fresh air going to the cat so it doesn't burn out.

removal of the split air pipe won't create terrible idle, but it will kill your precats... causing them to spit chunks of nasty busted catalyst into the main cat, causing it to get all nice and plugged...
...I think it will also increase emissions at idle... but I dunno

I think for what Is worth, I will keep on the Split Air Pipe. Whether It effects my emissions or not. I have confirmed that my actuators don't operate by using the "grease the rod ". I have also checked to see If the Actuators hold a vacuum which they do.

When I had my Intake off to Install the PR 6 port sleeves, I soaked the Insides with Castrol Super Clean and rinsed out the caarbon. Man let me tell you! Big CHUNKS were coming out.I think I gained another 5 horse after cleaning out the Upper,Lower and Dynamic Chamber after cleaning It. Also I took the liberty to hook up a brass wire wheel to my drill and I scraped off the carbon and **** on my Intake which netted my equally amazing results. Sorry to digress I'll stick to the Initial Thread...

When I bought my FC the previous owner didn't have the SAP In place. So I bought It brand new. So why strip It when I know It works to begin with!
