We've been doing that for a while down here in Los Angeles (well as long as I've had a car which is like 4 years). I guess its to put a load on the car so its more like while you're driving on the street....... CA smog laws SUCK!!!

Well, putting a load on it will have a affect on any car, but it's not going to help that you have a street port. Some rotaries already have a problem by themselves with smog, but you can't give up hope. I don't know if they check the timing where you live but they do here. If they don't I'm sure you can mess around with the timing to get better results. Also make sure that the car is tuned up and running well, that always helps. Another thing to do is to drive the car HARD right before the smog check to get the cat really hot, that helps too. That's all I can really think of right now, but I'm sure there are other things you can do to get better results. Hope this helps.

In New Jersey they put you on a dyno and my streetport passed with flying colors. As long as you have a working cat and o2 sensor on there you should be fine.

Yeah, but here in California, we have a lot stricter smog laws and I'm sure our max allowable readings are a bit less than yours.

That's exactly what I'm going to do! The motor I'm going to put in my car after this one blows is going to be street ported, full aftermarket turbo, Haltech, full straight through 3" exhaust, take off all the smog crap and anything else that doesn't make the car go faster.

I live in portland, Or and I think the laws R pretty similar to Ca's, you could try running both hot plugs. this will make the engine burn everything. it worked up here
