What do you do whenever one of your upper intake manifold bolts breaks off ?

So, I've came to a conclusion today. I cannot work on a car without out managing to break something. I busted my grounding bolt in half, then while taking off my intake manifold just now I managed to break one of the bolts again. I don't know what to do or if there is anything that I can do about it.
If anyone has any advice at all please give it..... please.....

Lightbulb Hmmm...

If its the bolt that holds that bracket up underneith the dynamic chamber, then with luck try to use a drill with a bit on reverse to try to knock it loose. That might work.

You are talking about the bolt that goes to the block rite?

No
It is one of the outer bolts on the upper intake manifold. I'm not sure if I'm even calling it by the right name.
It is on the side where the spark plugs are. It is one of the outside bolts on the manifold above where the spark plugs are. It holds it together.
And I already screamed and lost all self-esteem I had built up from the past eighty spark plug/coolant/oil changes. Thought I'd try something a bit more complicated.... Didn't turn out well.

Haha, so that is why it kepting tighting up.
I guess I'll just go ahead and sell it since I'm obviously not a good enough mechanic to own a fc.
I've been reading other threads on here about using a bolt extractor set you can buy at sears. I don't have a drill though so I don't think that'll work since I am broke.

Purchase a torque wrench................. You shouldn't be breaking bolts going into aluminum. If you are tightening them that much they are WAY too tight.

Yeah... I was going to until the only one I could find was a couple hundred.
Regret that decision now of course. I didn't think it was all the tight really.
So... any ideas on if the drill extractor will work on this?
I've got about 1/4th of the bolt stuck down in the hole; so it isn't showing at all.

Quick question guys; since I have about 1/4th or a little bit more in there and all the other bolts on the manifold are still in it will it be fine ?
As in I won't be able to tell a difference.
I figure with how much was left in there that it is still doing it's job, right?
Please. I've had three strokes and a heart attack over this. Not counting the panic attacks either.

Did this wire you were trying to work on have a plastic tab at the end of the wire or was it just a plain wire bolted to the engine?

Good because some people mistake the condenser wire for the ground. In regards to the ground wire that spot is not special and in fact it is a bit of the opposite for it is not easily accessible. If you really feel a need to redo the ground just cut it and choose another place on the engine as it's new home.

It would require extending the length of the existing ground wire via soldering an extension, but there are numerous nuts which fasten the uim to the lim on the passenger side of the throttle body and so on.

Does it have to connect to the engine because there is a thin peice of metal jutting from the firewall that I was thinking of drilling and grounding it there?

You needn't resort to such actions and you're making it too complicated.

I thought that would be a lot easier than trying to locate another bolt on the engine to ground it with. There are very few bolts that you can get to easily on the engine.

do u have a pic of the broken bolt?
I can get one

Not my day, can't my usb cable so I can upload a picture.
But. The one on the original ground is sticking up about one inch I sprayed wd40 on it and I'm going to try to vice-grip and twist it around to see if I can get it out.
The intake one is down deep but I think it'll be fine.

Two; the one that held the eyelet for the ecu ground down and then one off the intake manifold because I was going to take the uim off and try to rig something back up for the ground.
I gave up after that.
I'm sure I did tighten the intake manifold one up to tight, but whoever did a lot of the work on this car before me wasn't very good either. I keep finding bolts missing, lol.

there is a little voice in your head that should tell you, i think thats tight enough, there is no reason to break bolts. oh and you not being a good mechanic, dont worry i have seen worse, your fine. suggestion on taking it out, borrow a drill and bits, choose a bit that is just big enough but not too big that it will mess up the manifold thread, drill it in and you should had shaved the hole bolt and only left the thread of the bold on the thread of the manifold, then borrow a tap thats the same thread and tap out the remaining thread, that my only advice. good luck and listen to the little voice that sais, it is tight enough, dont lisen to the one that says just a little more.
