What do I need to run 10's?
I know it's dependent on driver skills, but I want to know what I need to do to at least have the potential to run 10's with my 88 t2. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!

If you have to ask... you can't afford it.
Completely strip out the car, swap in a 20B, then port and turbo the **** out of it. Virtually everything in or on the car should be an aftermarket performance part. Plus some nice slicks. Say, $30k and a really, really good mechanic. That should do it.
BTW, it will not be streetable. "For offroad use only."
Good luck!

money...a big fat wad of it. youre looking at stand-alone ECU, BIG turbo, and some engine work like at the very least a big street port. 3mm seals couldnt hurt either. plus some supporting mods too. youll need lots of fuel, a bad-boy clutch, slicks, and whatever is neccesary to make your car NHRA saftey regulation legal, like a roll cage.

I was just kidding, a 20b is not nessicary, it's just that he makes it sound so easy... and it's not. BTW, it would not be streetable in here in VA, any car that you can refer to as "modded" and "rotary" within the same sentance would most likely fail emmissions here.

you can run a 10 on a large turbo, lots of boost and juice
but i agree with Kai. If you have to ask you prolly cant afford it. you are looking at 12,000+

What about 11's in a 2000lb fc (dont ask it isnt really ) and no worries about emmisions, can it be done on a turbo that doesnt have massive lag on a 13b?

you need to aim for 450+ Hp at the flywheel
Full T04 turbo with a 60-1 compressor or bigger
Aftermarket exhuast manifold
External Wastegate
Fuel Pump
4 x 800 cc injectors or stock primarys and 1600cc secondarys
FPR
Fuel pump
Haltech E6K or similar stand alone efi system
3 inch exhuast
FMIC or Water to Air IC
drag radials or slicks
a fair amount of weigh reduction
A GOOD clutch
that should see you into the ball park

Firstly, go to Lingenfelters web page and find the 427TT setup and click on "Add to Cart." Next go to "Checkout" and be sure to have a major credit card available!

To give you an idea of what 10 seconds cost on other cars (see sig) I have a full built motor in my 3000gt, heads, cams, everything pretty much.... I have been waiting on a couple of stand alones but when I do fuel and buy even bigger turbos I will spend another $8k+ on that, plus the $12k I have spent on my motor and some support and another $3k in bolt ons. this is all with no labor charges since I do all my own work (only labor included was machine shop work) so that is $23k in parts and the car will run low 11's high 10's, this is will be daily driven though so there is a difference, this run wont be made on big ole' slicks since the awd hooks up good. But that gives you an idea of what it takes. add labor and that is easily $33k into the car. Fair this is also 1000lb's heavier than an FC and awd but 10's are insanely fast, believe me if you can drive a car that is fully streetable that pulls high 12's you wont loose on the street, at least I dont.
That's good to know my 510 will have a rotary conversion and in a year or 2 will also get a built 13b with street porting and a nice turbo setup and it will wiegh about 2000-2150 around there so with some big slicks slap'd under there I will expect some nice 12 second runs then!!
yes it can. a friend of mines old T2 had a t60-1 on it and it made a full 15psi of boost at 3500rpm, so it wasnt that laggy. rotaries have the benifit of extremely hot and fast exhaust pulses that lead to quick spooling. this allows us to run big turbos with minimal lag. 11s is not a far-fetched goal for an FC with the right work done to it.

I own a Skyline and ive invested over 60k to make it a 10 sec car. Ive upgraded the turbo, intercooler, exaust, suspension, lots of engine work, lots of weight reduction, brakes. The best time ive gotten on 1/4 so far is 10.210, And thats with over 600hp at the wheels. Ive raced so many cars with it and beaten so many races that i cant imagine anything faster than my skyline. Ive made probably a good 100 grand off my wins. SO having a 10sec car is easy if your like me and can spend lots of time winning races in gt3... Oh wait did i mention that this was my car in gt3 yet? Woops

Probably not the best way, but I bet it is the cheapest way...
Go to your local dirt track, best to go near the end of the season.
Find a 406 chevy with aftermarket heads (Brodix or AFR)
Used this engine should be less that $3500 complete.
TCI TH350 with 3000 RPM converter $1800 (or less used)
NOS-Big Shot $500
This combination runs 9.90's in a 72 Chevy Nova (3500 lb) on the bottle, 10.90's on the motor.

Kai,
You said you were were worried about emissions here in VA. They only test up in NoVA. Just drive down to Fredericksburg or Richmond and get your car inspected. :-)

Thanks all, for the info.
Here's the mods that I have on the car,
rb turbo back exhaust
greddy td06sh 20g
greddy fmic
greddy type s bov
2 720 secondaries
2 550 additional
safc
avcr
upgraded fuel pump
fuel pressure regulator
new act street/strip clutch
I'm suppose to get somewhere between 400-450hp at the crank. what kind of times am I looking to get? I'm almost done with the install, just have to hook up the electronics and weld the blow off valve but have no time to spare.

heres a plan to get you into the 10's. get an eclipse and drive it at 140mph towards a cliff. that will make you realize you need NOSSSSSS. then get a BIG bottle, no wait TWO of them! then race people and spray ALL YOUR NOSSSSSSS until your computer says danger to manifold and you're going so MADDD fast that your floorboard cant take it anymore and falls off (???) then you're in the 10's.
