what do i need to get some power?
so far i just got some spark plugs, cone air filter, and a exhaust. i was wondering what else can i go to get some more power? oh yea i saw this one chip called a surge performance chip for 89.99 on a website called yourhotcar.com. it said that it can get you a gain of like 5-20 hp. do you guys think it can work? or has anyone here tried it. thanks for the help.

Those chips don't work. Stay far away. As far as making more power, intake, header and exhaust make a huge impact. After that, there's not much else you can do without tearing down the motor and getting into porting.

Also, make sure your aux. ports are functioning properly. If they are malfunctioning, it can cause a big loss of power up top. To test, put some grease on the shaft of the actuators, go on a hard drive and see if the grease was scraped off by the shaft being pulled into the body of the actuator. If you have an S4, be careful when modifying exhaust, as the ports are opened by the exhaust. There are alternate ways to open them with the airpump. Just do some research on it.

--If you do a proper cold ram air intake you notice maybe 3-4 hp.
--TB "mod" affects reliability some, but will increase flow especially if all the rest mentioned is done. Results will lead to less than 1HP gain at full throttle.
--Removing broken AC pulleys / unit may regain 0.25 HP of parasitic drag.
--Removing clutch fan and installing electric fans will regain 0.25 HP of parasitic drag.
--If you buy a new main cat and gut the primary and secondary cats paired with a larger Y pipe or single exhaust you will notice up to 10 HP. This will not affect your 6 ports ability to operate properly.
--Basic tune up will pull a tad of lost HP back out of the engine. New spark plugs, new spark plug wires, full fluid changes including transmission, new thermostat, replace vacuum lines, inflate tires to 35 PSI give or take on your preference.
--Run a bottle of seafoam.
--Remove any dead weight. Buy an aluminum hood (40 pound reduction), buy BBS convertible or other lightweight wheels (40 pounds). Remove AC if broken. Remove AAS. Remove sound tar. Remove stock speaker amplifiers. Remove power accessories and install manual cranks. Remove rear wiper and tank. Remove front wiper tank if not needed.
--Stiffer lower suspension (more important than anything)
--Lightweight flywheel, clutch
Doing all of this combined you might see a 15-20 HP increase and a quicker more nimble car overall. You can tell a difference, but it's not going to be a drag race car or anything.
A better way to test your aux. ports is to stick a tiny zip tie on the bottom of the rods. If they actuate, the zip tie will move to the top of the rod. Then just cut the ties off.
I don't like the idea of putting thick grease on the rods. It will attract dirt and gunk over time and could affect their ability to open.

Kinda funny how the 3800 hesitation shows up. There still must have been something else done to it. I just don't see how removing 3 ounces of rotating mass will yield 10 horsepower to the wheels.
