Mazda seals have a three piece design to seal slightly better than their older two piece seals. Remember, S3 13Bs and the older 12As used 3mm seals but Mazda changed to 2mm in later years. 2mm seals do less damage to the rotor housings, have less tendency to float at high rpms and handle high power just fine. I'm talking 500ish rwhp from extremely ported turbo 13BREW engines. The only (slight) benefit of 3mm seals is detonation resilience, but even that point has never been proven and is just speculation.
As for Mazda 2mm vs. Atkins (Rotary Aviation) 2mm, the main differences are 3 piece versus 2 piece and flame hardened sealing nose vs. non treated nose. Both are cast Iron if I recall correctly. Atkins 2mm may not seal quite as well as Mazda so the compression numbers might be a few numbers lower (although this has not been proven either). However, a huge benefit of Atkins seals is their quicker bedding in time compared to Mazda seals. It takes a while for Mazda's harder seal surfaces to wear to the shape of the reused rotor housings. Judge Ito stated once that he uses Atkins seals on his rebuilds because they break in quickly and are trouble free. They might not last 200k miles like well cared for stock equipment but they also have less tendency to roll out of the apex seal slots in the rotors when worn down, due to their two piece construction having a taller overall seal shape instead of two separate (top and bottom) surfaces.
Go to n0pistons.com and go into Rotary Engine Building and Porting. A sticky thread there is "Apex Seals: One More F___ing Time" with much more information. There is also a really great porting thread there, too, which is one of the best threads I have ever read, anywhere.
When I rebuild my 6 port NA, using my self-taught porting style (shown in my sig and learned from the thread I mentioned) I will use Atkins 2 piece seals.
