What can cause the wheel bolts to snap off?!!!

What can cause the wheel bolts to snap off?!!!
Well as of now i got 3 bolts the normal length and 2 that have been snaped off. Before i run of and buy me some new ones Id like to know how that could have happend and try to fix it before it happens again.

The JERK at Firestone used a air wrench and overtorqued them. Ever try to remove the wheels after Firestone puts the wheels on? Not only will they overtorque them, but if you ask them NOT to rotate the tires......guess what they do?

I took a hard turn in my Z a while back and striped the threads right off the studs. so then about a block a way i lost my tire.. luckly i noticed the tings of the nuts coming off and pulled over...
Just replace the studs... there cheap.

Without a torque wrench you could tighten them all as close to equal as possible, then turn them say another half turn. I believe 80ft lbs is spec or close to. They don't cost that much, I think you can get a craftsman foor $30-50. They are well worth it just make sure you get a ft-lbs one not an inch-pounds one.

Ok, but i dont have factory wheels does that affect how much i have to tighten them?
2ndly mazda should have these in stock and i can just order some from there?

I think your over thinking this.. If you just happend to break one i wouldnt worry about the spec's too much.. Im sure that over time they stress and will break.. unless you have been having this problem alot..
or if you have after market wheels that may be a really soft alum...

You should be able to get studs of the same size and thread at an auto parts store. Take in one of your lub nuts and a stud off your car.
Just drive the old studs out with a hammer. They have a spline on the end that is in the hub to keep them from turning. When you put the new ones in you will have to tap them to get them started in the hub then as you tighten the lug nut it will set the stud all the way in.
There is a hand tool that has a phillips bit on one end and you hit it with a hammer and it turns the phillips bit, and can break those loose. Actually I don't think you even need to remove those screws, they just attach the rotor to the hub.

Its called an Impact driver. It costs $20 dollars from Sears (dont know if you have Sears outthere). Its like a big screwdriver that you hit with a hammer. The impact creates about 200lbs of torque and frees frozen nuts & bolts. This tool comes in very handy.

And i think the wheels are right. As ive seen a few gen2 with the same whieels. BUt i dont know for sure as they came wif the car. They are bloooody heavy and will be changed when i have the money. They are advanti Vallen's

Yeh cant wait. Ghetto is mymiddle name. They are out all good . Mazda will have a shipment coming in a few weeks (read probably mid august ). So might go on a hunt for some 2nd hand ones as a few workshops should have them.

You're also going to want to put a tiny bit of anti-sieze compound on the stud threads. If there is any corrosion between the stud and lug nut, it can cause the nuts to basically fuse to the stud. If this happens, you're going to snap the studs when you try and undo the nuts - overtightened or not.
