My Premix
I have been using Marvel Mystery Oil in My TII on the reccomendation of my engine builder...I used to pre mix with Valvoline 2 stroke in my first gen...Will 2 Stroke hurt the cats on my TII??

Should I refrain from using premix with all the stock cat's in place?
Also, does Marvel Mystery oil have the TC-W3 on it (Basically this certification means it burns cleaner) to avoid deposits.
What are my options for cheap synthetic (oxy-moron)
Royal Purple I've heard of, I'm assuming it mail order only.

MMO is not an oil, really....It is more of a Top Cyl Lube type product..It is clear and has the consistancy of Gasoline...
I don't want to clog my cat, that is why I am avoiding 2 stroke...
You should NOT use a synthetic oil to pre-mix...They do not burn like a conventional oil...Those are words straight from Jim Downing....

My $.02 on pre-mix
When pre-mixing you SHOULD use a high quality SYNTHETIC oil made for 2 cycle engines. Its MADE TO BURN CLEAN. You should NOT run synthetic as your normal MOTOR oil UNLESS you pre-mix, reason being you eliminated your normal engine oil from being injected into the chambers....therefore a synthetic can be used as a motor oil now. I recommend Kloats (sp?) 2 cycle Racing oil or Amsoil. Both are synthetic

I meant Synthetic 4 stroke...Not 2 stroke...All Two strokes that are TC-W3 are OK (synthetics are probably better)......I would use a synth 2 stroke if I knew how my Cats would handle it...
I just dont want to clog them up...

The cat's will live longer with any 2-stroke premix than with OMP injected motor oil.
You can still run premix even if you haven't removed the metering oil pump. Just run a thinner ratio or use a thinner oil like MMO/ATF/topendlube/castor oil......... These burn quickly, clean, and will provide reasonable lubrication/insurance along with the working OMP. Plus, the MMO/ATF.... will keep your fuel pump lubricated, your fuel injectors clean, and will help with engine carbon/varnish deposit removal/prevention.
Visit your r/c hobby shop for a quick lesson in premix/2 stroke lubes. Another good resource is any bike shop that services a lot of 2 stroke dirtbikes. Don't get carried away by the tcw3 cert. There are alot of good oils that don't have it. It if mainly for the marine industry which wanted the media/public to think that they were environmentally responsible.

Soot Buildup
I did not disconnect my metering pump, so that is why I use MMO...
I am not so sure that long term use of two stroke oils in catalytic cars is such a good idea...The marine industry does not need to worry about this, neither does your local Chainsaw shop...
I know how much soot built up in the exhaust of my first Gen using 2 Stroke only...I would love to see a catalyst brick still funtion with all that soot...
Just my .02

Long term use of two stroke vs. long term use of motor oil--- if your MOP is disconnected, 2 stroke oil will burn easier, and leave less(if any) of an ash deposit compared to motor oil(not designed to burn cleanly) injected by the MOP.
The marine industry definitely worries about it. They are an environmental 'black eye' to the eco weenies. They are adapting alot slower(FI/Cats/4-cycle......) then the automakers. There are several 2 stroke engines with catalytics. They are not having cat problems.
Please don't compare a 1st gen to a 2nd gen. Soot buildup isn't from the oil. It is mostly from running rich.
If your are running so much 2 stroke that you see a soot buildup, then you need to adjust your oil:fuel ratios. I've never seen soot buildup caused by 2-stroke oil. And, I've run various motors as high as 25:1 ratio. The only time that I had soot was when the carbs were poorly adjusted. This usually isn't an issue with FI vehicles.
I use MMO(256:1)-- 1oz per 2 gallons of gas with a working MOP. I previously ran 128:1(easy 1oz:1gallon) and also ran 2-stroke oil 128:1 and 64:1. The car has run the past 3 years with some sort of premix always. When I figure out how to disconnect the electronic OMP without trigging the limp mode, I will switch to a 64:1 2-stroke/MMO mix since I like to bounce the tach to 8k. If I was less abusive, I would probably run as lean as 128:1. Now, I run a lean 256:1 ratio because I do not care for the added cost and because the MOP is working.
My car has no problem with passing emissions(100k miles-no vacuum leaks, no clogged injectors, no flooding issues, no soot buildup, proper sensor function, air pump working, and all other bigbrother devices attached-----because I take care of it and I hate to deal with the **** exhaust sniffers).

I am using the same premix ratio of MMO to gas as you...
And Yes, I will compare a first gen to a second gen if I want to As I have had two of both...
I had the metering pump blocked off on the last first gen that I had and ran straight two stroke (8 oz per tank)...My EGT's did not indicate rich, so something made the soot (It burned no oil, so what else could it be?..hmmmm)
Yea, the Exhaust ***** are a Bitch....
