What Bhp am i Running?
Ok i am Trying to find out what sort of ball park my Bhp is in?
I have a 1990 T2 fairly stock, the mods i have are 2.5" exhaust (no cats),TB mod,Airfilter and 8psi of boost?
Roughly what do you think it should be running at the flywheel?
Thanks.

I know it sounds abit odd but why do i only get 10-20 bhp increase i thought the decat alone would give me that?
I am not being funny but why so little increase?

Um, cause your stock boost is 7.5psi and you asked how much at half a psi more over stock. You do know that the car makes 200bhp at the flywheel stock at 7.5psi, right?
Realistically, the turbo is going to be boosting over 10psi of boost due to the open exhaust.  What that kinda boost, you should be doing 230-240bhp at the flywheel easily...

Is it 7.5 i was told it should be 6.4 but i could be wrong.
This is a bit of an odd subject as i bought the car with the boost at 5.2 psi so after a bit of asking around i rased the boost to 8.4 psi peak (it does drop to about 7.5)

1986-1988 Zenki runs 5.5psi of boost.
1989-1991 Kouki runs 7.5psi of boost.
If 8.0psi of boost is all you see after a full exhaust system install, something is seriously wrong.

I have come accross Gen2 T2's though with Exhausts fitted with stock ecus how can that be right? are they lucky or asking for trubble?

right i am starting to panic now, So on a S5 with a exhaust fitted with no cats there is no way i can run 8 psi without somthing beeing blocked or damaged?
Could it be somthing like a carbon blockage or my boost gauge playing up?

I dont have a FCD fitted and i am reading my boost of a after market Boost gauge.
The thing is i am not so much woried about the boost being at 8 psi but what i am panicing about is i know i have an after market 2.5" exhaust on a S5 and if it's suposed to be atleast 10 psi and it aint i have a problem.

Your turbo might be shot.
I have a full exhaust and was not getting any higher than 7psi. (I also had blue smoke in between shifts). I thought it was weird because I had just installed the midpipe expecting much higher boost...
These 2 problems prompted me to have the turbo looked at. Sure as sh*t I was missing small semi-circular pieces from the tips of the turbine wheel. At 105K the thing was toast, so I sent it out for a rebuild/upgrade and now I hit 10.5 at 6000rpm in 4th with a ported wastegate. (My motor has 70K) BIG transformation.
I'm wondering what my BHP is also??

Right so even though its a S5 thats basicly stock the Turbo has never been apart to my knolage it should be running around the 10 psi mark.
If it was the Turbo in theory i would i be able to turn up my boost? (ie by fitting a bleed valve and rasing it slightly) or does'n it work like that?
Also i have had a realy good look at the Exhaust and it does'nt look like a very good quality peice of kit and so was woundering if maybe a baffle had colapsed or there was some sort of obstruction? would that cause these symptoms?
Just to add insult to injury its started to Idle iraticly and stall easly, i put this down to the TPS, but could it be related?
As for my engine it has done 10,000 miles on a rebuild, the car has done 70,000.
Somthing that started of as a simple question is driving me mad.

No i have been told my car should'nt be at 8psi with a Exhaust fitted? it should not be able to run under 10 psi.
What is winding me up is its not right (it does'nt feel right when driving and does'nt like to Idle properly) i am thinking it needs a rebuild but it is only 10,000 miles old? does'nt that meen there is somthing wrong? its not as if i treat it hard.
Read the Replys above and tell me what you think?

The series 5 cars reach their higher boost values due an extra solenoid that triggers at a pre-set boost before boost hits the wastegate (ie: It's like a built in boost controller) .. The series 4 t2's don't have this (Wastegate is directly triggered by ammount of boost)..
If this solenoid isn't working, or is disabled (Usually due to incorrect boost aftermarket boost controller install) then it's possible that your wastegate actuator is also responding directly to boost pressure.. This will result in the wastegate opening at lower boost levels (ie: 6 psi)..
I wouldn't worry to much about it in this situation.. if your car is pulling good, you arn't smokeing out the exhaust and you're happy with the car, then why worry..

Becouse i have an all new problem, the car has been idleing funny for some time i thought it was just me not seting it right but it's geting harded to start in the last few days.
This looks like Apex wear but the thing is the engine is'nt that old? i have done a compretion test and the seems to be exactly the same on both rotors (70-40-40 psi) i know this would cause my starting problem but what i want to know is all this related ie if i do a rebuild and say its another fault will it go again?
Just out of intrest i pulled the exhaust off the Turbo and had a look at the blades with an Endoscope they seem to be all there and there is not any movement in the shaft.
Chris, are you saying that the stock S5 when fitted with a Free flowing Exhaust might not go over its set boost? if so this would make me feel alot better?

This is what i am painicing about this guy is very well up on Rx's and what he says is usaly right?
If 8.0psi of boost is all you see after a full exhaust system install, something is seriously wrong. -Ted
