whaqt should i do

i need help -i have an 86gxl with 150000 on the clock(do not know if it has the original engine). I havent really been able to drive it because it only starts every now and then -when it does start i have to help it(starting spray or push starting). i have tried every thing to fix the problem including installing a fuel cut off switch, new plugs ,checked coils, changed oil and filter , ATF treatment, ect. I really dont think the engine is bad because when i do get it started it has all the power it should have, it doesnt leak anything(oil, coolant)inside or outside the engine. Is there anything else i can do because i am getting really frustrated with my car(this is the 4th 7 i have owned and have never had this problem.Should in get another used engine , if so what should i expect to pay. From the little research i have done it seems cheeper to get a low mileage j-spec engine than to rebuild.
Plz let me know what u guys think
p.s. if i bought a turbo motor could i just swap all of my n/a stuff on it to make it work with my car?

Well, it might not be the engine, I had a similar problem with my 87. Turned out that it wasn't getting any juice from any of the injectors. Right now most of the car is sitting on my living room floor waiting for me to reinstall. The only thing left to take out is the engine, I ordered new apex seals and a gasket kit, all of which cost me a total of $300 bucks from Atkins Rotary. I was searching e-bay to see if they had any good deals, speaking of engines, and they had some rebuilt for a decent price. You should check out e-bay motors and if you haven't already, look into buying a manual (Thank goodness for manuals). Do a search my seller for atkinsrotary they're great and should definetly hook you up with whatever you need. Good luck!

well after thinking about it and confering with ZombeGTA, we came to the decision that your engine might not be making the compresion it needs.

As far as installing a turbo and swaping out n/a parts, I'm not so sure that would work. Best bet n/a parts is to get a supercharger. A supercharger basically does the same thing as a turbo.

It sounds like the fuel injectors are leaking. Does the car smell like gas? Try picking up the fuel bleed-off valve. you can buy it at Mazdatrix. They work great! I had the same problem with my 86 gxl and it solved the problem.

Hmm...if you have a fuel-cut switch and the problem comes and goes, I would think a thorough electrical check-up may be required. Have you checked the harness, injector connectors and ECU?

Start with a compression test. If your compression is low, there is no need to diagnose further. Low compression will cause the problem that you are describing. If that's not the problem, great, you have saved a bundle of cash.

Well, if you have to push start it or use starting fluid each time, you are gonna have to check compression first. At the very least listen for 3 distinct clicks before you go buying another motor
