Weird Start when cold...

when i let my car sit for a couple hours in which it becomes cold...

i try to start it and it starts...but sputters and backfires a couple times... meanwhile i have to keep the rpm's above 2k or it will just go down to idle and die... if i hold the rpms for lets say a good 1 min it will start to sound fine...

it seems as if something is getting clogged when i start it.... also the automatic warmup doesnt work during this time...

when the automatic warmup does work it doesnt do that problem... so any idea?

its weird and gots me puzzled..

my neighbor talked to me this morning because when i try to start my car at night and it backfires and junk she doesnt like it... shes ok with it when it does the automatic warmup... just not what its been doing recently..

sort of.. cause it sputters and stuff... like the engine is trying to warm up.... seems like something is stuck or clogged and needs to the RPMS be held high for a min or two for it to go away.... basically this is a cold only problem.. but... if the car is cold and the cold start kicks in... which it does 1/5 times (dunno why) it will be fine...

You have Fouled out your spark plugs my friend.. I suggest changing them, my car used to do the same thing before the rebuild and upgrades, if the cold start didn't kick in, it would sputter like hell and backfire until I held the rpms over 2k for a while and then the plugs would clear out and it would run fine..... changine the plugs worked for a while, but it would gradually get worse... Advance has NGK's for like $4.5 a piece.

However... there is a reason that they are fouling out, and that usually means something nasty.....
in my case.. it was the water seals starting to go and when i shut the car off.. as it cooled, it was drawing water inot the rotor housing, and it would fould out the spark plugs... the car didn't smoke or run hot at this ppoint, however, it started fouling plugs out every couple of days, and then i started to smell a bit of collant in the exhaust when i started it, but it never did smoke. Upon tearing the engine down, we noted that the seals were starting to go....
