Weird noise, tell me it's not my engine

Ok so this only started happening very recently, and when I think about it it's been happening after I turned up the boost (stock S5 TII with ported stock turbo) to 8.7psi (no fuel mods, just have a techtom rom chip which I believe SHOULD prevent fuel cut). I've never "hit a wall" so to speak while running full boost, and the car does not feel any slower than it has ever been.

It makes a weird noise, almost like a whirring noise (but it's not the pilot bearing because it's not the same noise). The best example I can give is like a Prius that's being pushed hard, or another electric motor. As I bring the revs up, the noise gets louder. It's inaudible after maybe 10-15 mins of driving (once car is fully warmed up and thermostat opens up).

My car has been starting fine (doesn't flood), so I'm still hopeful that the compression is decent. I have no access to a compression tester, so I'm hoping someone else can diagnose the problem before I potentially destroy my car.

does the noise come up when you revup in gear or in neutral? if in gear, it might be your differential.

5spd right? i would make sure that your tranny has suffecient fluid levels. mine kinda wines but i know its low so... also, yeah check the diff. same fluid thats in your tranny (if im correct)

another idea that might not be too far off is your turbo might not want to live anymore lol...

this may be a dumb question but do you still have the smog pump hooked up? If so thats probally what it is. Mine did the same thing before I pulled it off. Do the checks mentioned above to rule out the tranny or drivetrain

I'm guessing (until further info) clutch release bearing or input shaft bearing. The other items posted sound good too.
