Question Weird Idle Problems

Hey guys, I've got yet another question about my '86 N/A RX-7.

Recently I've been experiencing soem weird idling problems. Some times I''ll start it up and it will idle fine (at ~750 rpms), other times it will idle at 500rpms or lover. Sometimes dropping to the very bottom bar, and often times it just stalls out.

Today I picked it up from the shop and initially it ran fine, idled at 750. But every time after that today that I took it out, it idled at 500 or below, often fluxuating between about 100 and 500rpms. It also stalled out on me about four or five times, which makes driving downtown incredibly annoying as I have to keep the throttle slightly depressed so that it doesn't die.

Anyways, anyoen have any suggestions abotu what this could be from? I have an HKS intake and I'm wondering if maybe that has something to do with it?

Thanks in advance,
Sean

Ummmm, nasty intake leak (check your intake elbow), or badly adjusted idle speed ? Could be either....

How would I adjust the intake speed?

Ummmm, I said "idle speed"

Check your intake for any cracks, and try to hear (with a stethoscope) for any hissing sounds (which would indicate a leak).

Set your idle speed (use the FSM). Also check your BAC (could be bad or needing a good cleaning)

Yeah my 87 Turbo II has been doing the same thing lately...my friend suggested that new spark plugs would be a good idea cuz his rx-7 would do the same thing. He said it makes a world of difference. Dunno if you've already done this but it's worth a try.

Got my ECU wet (vert top drain plugged and I drove with 3 inches of water on the passanger floor) and had very similar symptoms. Changed ECU's and problem disappeared.

Thanks for the responses. I haven't been able to find any leaks any leaks in the intake like Ace suggested, so I'll give the spark plug replacement idea a try.

If worse comes to worse I guess I'll take it into dealership and have them look at it, although I'm running out of time before I leave for college.

Ugh, and my drive shaft is going too. The price we pay for a sports car.

Take a look at your BAC electrical plug. Look to see if one of the two sockets is *pushed back* in the harness plug. It sounds like you have intermittant contact in that plug or the harness. Any self respecting bac will maintain a idle close to 750 rpm.
