Weird Engine Vibration/Noise
Ok guys I picked up an 86 base that has some serious issues.
It wouldnt pass 4k rev without cutting off. The tranny has a serious whine from a bad bearing. There is also a very bad vibration that increases with the rev.
The engine was rebuilt about 100 miles ago I was told and it has had the fuel and vibration issue since. The tranny has always been bad.
I fixed the fuel issue but connecting an injector plug that was totally disconnected. After that the car ran right engine wise but the vibration like something was off balance in the motor was bad.
The clutch also sucks ***.
The guy had a shop pull the tranny out and they realised the pressure plate was loose and tightened it down.
I think this may have something to do with it as it sounds like it is coming from the back of the engine and the car seems to run great with now power issues at all.
I am thinking of replacing the tranny all together and while it is off pull they flywheel, resurface it and get a new clutch and pressure plate.
Do you guys think they put a wrong counterweight in it when they rebuilt the motor?

there is really no reason for them to change the counter weight when doing a rebuild. they should have just used the same one. does it sound like the whole engine is moving or like something connecting/inside the engine is loose/imbalnced?

I would get the new clutch on and try it out. It it still feels off I'd seriously question the rebuild. Who did it? What all was replaced? Who balanced it? How much did u pay for this thing?
