that gooey stuff is a bitch, its black inside right? its just breaking off in pieces for me, gonna try that hammer and chisel thing. basically i gutted everything from the seats back (bins, mats, ets) and looking to clean it up really good then painting it as i'm not going to put anything back in. do you think acetone or laquer thinner would work on the metal parts for removing the old dirt and grime and adhesive, and especially the wool/carpet stuff thats stuck on the adhesive, what a bitch!

PS: cutting out the dip where the spare wheel sits in the back behind the fllor pan in front of the rear lights helps a bit, just replace it with a straight flat piece of heavy gauge sheet metal. It kicks out about 12+ pounds you don't need.

I always use a stiff putty spreader and a heat gun, it's works great just don't breathe the fumes. You should be able to pick up a cheap heat gun at kragen or autozone for about $15 if you don't have one.

It's light but like I said it's probably not street "Legal".....good luck with your project.

You drive it on the street, and think it "probably" isn't legal. I live across the country and I know that CA has strict as hell laws on cars.....
You're not in Florida, buddy. Isn't it just a matter of time before a cop pulls you over and owns you? Are you an illegal immigrant? Gangsta?

what cop would bust a kid for no HVAC? lol.
you gotta consider that a TII motor/drivetrain does weigh alittle more than the n/a one. so him bein 1998 lbs would make you like ...... 1800 lbs.. just a guess. i like the idea he stated tho, taking a dremel and shaving plastic and metal peices off. thats pretty much how you gotta do it.

"Illegal immigrant"???????????
"Gangsta"???????????????
Well first off, yes there are strict rules of vehicle code in california, ill give you that, but what you dont know HICK, is that there are certain rules of engagement on what is illegal and what is legal on public highway use. Ca is more strick on emissions policies, and taking it that you said your from FLORIDA? I am aware that you dont have any of these emission laws, if not your state is being prepared to induct a new emissions law so that you red-necks out there wont be poulluting our country with them chevy's of yours. So that leads me to a conclusion of my statements, MY FC WAS STRIPPED TO LIGHTEN UP THE VEHICLE LOAD,IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO MODIFY THE WEIGHT OF THE CAR unless you are intending to sell the vehicle to another buyer without expressing the fact that there has been some modifications to the vehicle resulting in weight adjustments. The only people who may have a say in the vehicle being unsafe is the dept of motor vehicles which have CHP officers inspect the car....Thank you and go suck on ur cousins dick....HICK

I will piece by piece tear your post apart and own you. Observe:
1. I'm from PA. Specifically, outside Philadelphia. I attend a UNIVERSITY. I said you aren't from Florida, implying that you ARE subject to emissions testing. Coincidentally, my car IS emissions legal and must pass annual emissions testing.
2. When I said your car wasn't legal in CA, I was referring to the fact you said the engine bay was bare (i.e. removed emissions). How can a car like that pass your admittedly tight inspection standards?
3. There was no need to get so excited. I was merely raising the BS flag on you. Perhaps your car is indeed slightly under 2,000 lbs, but with a "bare" engine bay, you can't possibly have a legit inspection sticker. I'm not polluting the environment, YOU are.
Good day, sir.

Haha just you weight, haha.
Oh and I have said this many times before, i would rock the hell out of a FB but I just don't fit right in one.
Oh and as far as the steering colume issue goes, I swapped out the adjustable one with the fixed on out of my GTU and the fixed one weighs about 4 lbs less than the adjustable one.
I also got half of my Energy Suspension bushing kit in today and it made a bit of a difference, now just got to get the rest in.

Sorry to bitch/hijack. I just wanted him to get owned publicly.
Back to topic: does your car have a sunroof? I believe the entire thing weighs roughly 45 lbs and is positioned in the absolute worst area of the vehicle for handling (raises cg). If you have one, there are CF/polycarbonate options available.

The total weight of all sunroof components weighs roughly 45 lbs, unless the posts on this forum and others were lies. The majority of the weight is obviously not the glass itself, since it's only so large.

i have removed the sun roof on my drag car, although i dont remember the true weight, i do remember that with the tracks, motor, and the backing to the sun roof, it was kinda heavy. but i dont think it was 45 pounds, that does seem a little high.
(by backing i mean i cut all the bracing from the accuall sun roof part, mine is just a skin now.) and yes that is a bad place to have weight for road racing.

I remember reading the same stuff, the panel isn't all that heavy, it's the motor and track assembly.
speeddemon32 - do you just keep the roof off always, or do you have it attached/sealed somehow. I'd like to fab up some kind of latching system or something along those lines to keep it removable.

Ok heres your weight for the sunroof, the weight of the whole assembly minus the outside skin is 15 pds. Now I don't have a exact weight on the outside skin since I put it back on the car before I got a weight but i'm saying about 5 pds or so.
