We need 10 lucky people for CF Hoods
I called and talked to Carbon FIber Hoods.com and we only need 10 people to have them make a mold for good. The cool part is that its going to be around $400. thats really cheap considering $200 for a good condition aluminum TII hood, then around $100-150 for Painting it. thats only an extra $100 plus its lighter and looks badass. What do yall think?!? if i had enuff extra cash sitting around, i'd buy all the hoods, then sell em later on but i dont soo. I also want to talk to them about a wholesale acount with my business and i think we could get them cheaper also.. i think after they have the orignal mold then they can do black/blue/red, etc. all the different colors they have out now. let me know what you guys are thinking.

yeah i would also like the stock scoop a little higher also, but let me just talk to them on monday to clerify all the details. this way there is no wondering etc. if i wasnt going to be running the stock IC for a couple of months i would just go ahead with a different scoop but alot of people like the stock scoop. the only problem with a higher scoop is that someone has to mold it that way, which isnt too big of a deal, but i'll find all the details out on monday. hopefully we could get them for $375 or so after my business discount. we'll see.

I might be in.. but make sure the scoop won't let water drip onto the alternator. =)
oh, and if you want to make a larger scoop, why don't you have them copy the mazdaspeed hoodscoop and integrate that?

Just so you know, a carbon fiber hood probably wont weigh less than a TII alum hood.
If it is lighter, then its not going to be very strong.

Thats what I was thinking. It doesn't make sense to make it like the stock hood. There won't be an improvement in weight and if so it'd be extremely marginal. I guess its cool if you're into the carbon look but I think a hood like Hen and soul Assassin speak of would kick ***.

I just talked to them and they were really nice. He said that they are built like the DC Sports hoods (quality i guess) He said that they werent the knockoff type, with flaws and shitty carbon fiber, but that they were clear coated carbon fiber then lined with a fiberglass type resin then a heatshield so it wont burn etc. for turbo cars. Get this, the weight was 15-20 lbs, said that for our type of hood with the scoop that we'd easily be towards the lower number, b/c of some underhood supports etc. If we want color its $100 more, but he said to try and stay away from it b/c its a hassle etc. takes more time etc. Also he said that we didnt need 10 hoods, but that for 1 hood its $1000 2 hoods $599 and just down from there til $400 at 10 hoods, but maybe they could do that for 8 or whatever. I asked them if we send em a hood and he said no that they buy an OEM hood from Mazda so that its perfect b/c it has to be. then they mold off of that, he said it shouldnt be any longer than 6 weeks. but maybe could rush it. I think this is really what i want now, sounds really confident. Let me know what you think.

All that is, is a stock scoop with that one little "spike" in the middle, just what the stock intercooler needs, less airflow. Plus it's $354 soooo, probly not.

I would prefer it to be molded around the stock tII hood, i think it looks nice and clean now and why change it?
If it does end up looking like a non-stock/aftermarket one i don't think i would buy it because all the ones i have ever seen just don't do it for me.
My 2centz...

I've got an idea why don't you have them mold one with like an empty square in it where the scoop would normally go and then you could choose what kind of scoop you want and they could pop it in maybe or screw it in. but the point of it is that they have one hood mold and several other smaller scoop molds like stock, inverted,or aggressive stock for more intercooler cooling. and then if you changed you mind then you could buy the other kind of scoop that you would want.

Thats almost the same weight as a TII hood...
And it looks the same as a stock hood?
Isnt DC Sports the Ricer company?
