CA Water Thermo Sensor Confusion

My Car: 86 NA

So I followed a tutorial on making a light probe to diagnosis ecu error codes, got 3 short flashes and a pause, which means my Water Thermo Sensor failed.

Diagnostic Probe

Error code said its a two wire sensor behind the water thermostat housing, so I looked.....

Thermostat Sensor with only one wire....

Problem is the only sensor I found near the thermostat housing was a one wire....and I went to autozone to buy a replacement, and they only had a two wire one......same with atkinsrotary

Left: Autozone........Right: Original?

Please tell me I'm a noob and that another water thermo sensor with two wires is lurking in a nook I didnt see.

Your original sensor isnt factory, i have no clue what that could be. The sensor they gave you appears to be the right one. There's suppose to be a 2 wire green female connect somewhere on the back side of the water pump housing.

Alright quick question do I remove the waterpump to see it? I've been searching the books and pdfs(no luck) for days and I need this car running for school on monday.....

Progress: Removed alternator for better view, still can't find it....

Sorry for being dumbfounded but I need a reference point. Is it(factory sensor) before the thermostat towards the radiator, or after the thermostat toward the waterpump. Or is it the same hole as the aftermarket sensor I pulled out as pictured above, meaning I just swap that out?

If I don't find it in a bit I'll just take out the whole water pump and look

Post #10 in this link shows the sensor/location. Im pretty sure the factory harness connector is suppose to be green also.

Does your car have a separate temp gauge? If so, thats what the long probe looking one was for, the one for the stock gauge is in the rear iron

I said plugged in, as in connector. Not threaded into neck. As that plug is nothing factory. But looks like someone pointed that out to you
