Walbro Woes....
i got 2 questions for you guys, well mabe 3....
after installing a walbro 255lph in my car it runs pig rich, i mean on my AF guage it's reading the first sometimes second green square too the right, besides burning more gas and all this is ok i assume?...
another thing, my idle's gone to ****, it'll idle at 900rpm for a second then go to 600rpm'ish for a half second, and repeat....
900, 600, 900, 600, 900, 600, 900, 600, 900, 600, 900, 600....
what could be causing this?, the walbro was installed along with a fuel filter, i find this odd, help?...
oh, and i hear that walbro fuel pumps whine, my doesent whine.... when i ordered it they were out and making more at the factory, mabe they fixed the "whine"...?

I would say your idle problems are related to your running way too rich. Try adjusting the idle as per the FSM. Oh, and running rich isn't too great, unless you like making your car slower and wasting gas. Got a fuel controller to control all that fuel?

The walbro produces more pressure than the stock fuel pressure regulator can handle. Some people swear by them but alot of others have had the same problem your experiencing. If I were you I would go to the FD parts for sale section and do a fuel pump search, find a used FD fuel pump, I think I paid $25 for mine, and put it in. Its easily good for 300+ hp, FD's run 850c secondaries, and it wont over run your fuel pressure regulator.
Expect 14 mpg with the walbro
expect 20 with the FD..................My experience with my 87
Of course if your shooting for 425 hp I would get a 94-98 Supra TT fuel pump. I have a BNR stage 3 and it out runs the walbro in my 89 so the walbro is getting changed out for a supra pump. About $250 online.

yeah see the problem is my mechanic installed the walbro and i doubt i'll end up swapping it out....
i was told when i get dyno time and tune my car it will be fine....
could i cause damage to the engine with the walbro and how rich it makes my car run?...
by you saying your BNR stage 3 outruns the walbro, what are you meaning?...

No, it's not dangerous to your motor. You might end up fouling some spark plugs, but that's about it. Running lean is what can hurt your motor. Running rich just steals power and fuel economy. Don't sweat it.

That sometimes happens, not often but it does. I was tought that when doing a fuel pump upgrade to always install a fuel pressure regulator and 1/4" (that might be factory, can't remember, but bigger) fuel line going straight from the filter to the regulator.
It's easy, cheap and prevents many problems.

shoots fire like a mother too....
if i get some dyno time and get it tuned will i still need a fuel pressure regulator or will the SAFC-II regulate it?...

Running rich for extended periods of time will hurt your engine. It washes off the lubricant around the rotor seals and adds to carbon buildup on the rotor faces.
There is a thing called Carbon Lock. Carbon Lock is when a large chunk of carbon falls off the face of the rotor and JAMS b/t the rotor housing and the apex seal on the rotor. The engine then locks up and won't turn over. Plus damaging the face of the rotor housing.

the narrow band a/f gauge you have is not going to tell you anything. its fancy to look at the lights go back and forth.... thats about it.
if you have a pfc f-con then get a gcc to fine tune the fuel map. There is also a adjustent inside the fcon... open it and see what number the little dial points at. If i remember right 0 is stock and it goes up from there.
adding a walbro and running rich is normal. i had the same issues with my fcon walbro setup back in the day.... i ended up going with a safc cuz i had 550s and 680s the fcon is for all stock 550s. now i went haltech and i cant wait till i get my car done.
