vibration while driving..
Hi, I recently bought a 91 non-turbo and I feel vibration that feels like its coming from the back. I jacked the car up and found out the back right tire is out of balance or the rim may be slightly bent. So that could cause a little vibration. But I took the wheel off and the car still made a rumble. The back right axle also looked as if it was maybe slightly bent. I myself dont know too much about cars, but my father does and this is basicly what we thought might be wrong. Anyone else had this problem or know what it might be??
Thanks, Matt

Let me see if I have this right, you jacked up the back end and ran the car while the wheels were in the air right? OK well the balancing of the tire will usualy only give you a vibration at higher speeds unless you have a shifted belt (you cen tell if there is a buldge in the tread if it's really bad). As for the axle you can get a vibration from it if it is bent but bending that would be difficult to do. I say you hit a curb it is more likely to bend the control arm or the strut before you would bend the axle. You might want to check your U-Joints and see if there are any dings in your drive shaft this can cause vibration. A loose U-Joint will also make a small clunking sound.

Well there is a pretty nice sized little hump in the side of the tire. And some of the wheel is scraped pretty deep in a small section. So I think the previous owner did hit a curb. But I'll be sure to check those u-joints asap. Also, a question about acceleration. The car wont peel out, but once you get to like 10 it takes off like a bat out of hell. Something not right?? Or is that just how a stock non turbo 91 is?

Well it could be a coupple of things but how are you trying to launch it? If you really want to lay some rubber (not too often though be nice to her and she'll be nice to you), first get the rpm's up, get her to 7 grand and pop the clutch the tires should spin unless you have some really crazy rubber on the back. However unless your putting 200rwhp to the ground you will not be able to spin the tires by letting the clutch in at the same time as you press the gas down. You will accelerate in the way you just described. You have to get some inertia from the engine transfered to those wheels.

there is your problem
I don't think it is possible to burnout in any car that is an automatic
(joke of course...)
but yea that sounds perfectly normal.. I drive a 5 speed N/A, and if I let the clutch out at 1.2K rpms and then floor it once it catches, it won't burnout but once it gets to about 2k it starts screaming

Ooooo... automatic, ya that's your problem, nothing wrong with your car. I don't drive automatic so I don't even know if you can launch one. I know if you search the forum there should be something somewhere on launching an auto, sorry that I can't help ya there.
