Very Long Drive Houston - Daytona

Me and a couple of buddies are going to go on a road trip over spring break from Houston to Daytona Florida. A buddy of mine is going to go with us he owns a t2 with 73,000 original miles on it and its bone stock. He really wants to take his car but he is unsure if he can make it. With the stock motor. I told him he would be fine but we need some more opinions.

Thanks
Matt

Unless you're driving it like the gumball 3000, why wouldn't it? Rotaries are pretty damn reliable when maintaining a specific speed.

why would there be any issues???

Is he having problems??? has the car been abused??? why would there be any reason what so ever that a Turbo with only 73000 miles on it wouldn't be able to make that trip???

Its not like its even a big distance right???

I cruise my 87TII from my place to kingston to see my sister all the time in the summer....

car (currently) has 116,000kms on the ORIGINAL motor and turbo.....4.2hour drive one way.....no issues whatsoever....

just give it a good once over, check your fluids, tires and that kinda stuff....

the wankel will get you there

If it is well maintained and has no serious issues now, why wouldn't it make it? Freeway driving is much easier on a car than city driving. It'll be a bit expensive on gas though.

Idn he bought the car because i used to own one. i should be getting one real soon again so im happy about that. but back to his story. He is afraid cause he just got the car and dosnt want to ruin it at all but i told him get a new radio (stilll has the stock one in there) get a CD player and you will be set.... but of course were going to be with other cars. so yeah there will be a little bit of fun on the way over there...

My first TII was a 89 that I sold at 119k with the stock motor and ran great. Only sold it due to buying a house (stupid idea)!

I think it'd be fine. I'd make the trip.

If you wanna be more cautious a routine check up couldnt hurt, it could probably use one since it is appoaching 80k mi.

If he just bought the car, do some of the more obvious things to it before taking anywhere. Change all the fluids, change all the belts, and change all the hoses. The belts and hoses are the small thigs that catch you off guard and leave you stranded somewhere. They are relatively cheap and if they bust on you on the road, you still had to pay for them anyways. May as well do it before there's an issue.

get AAA and forget about it. This is probably the best $70 or whatever that you can spend as far as peace-of-mind goes. I really don't think he has anything to worry about though.
