Vert rain guard

I am looking to get a new top for my car (after I get it to start working again) and noticed that the 88 did not have rainguards and the 89+ did. What are the rainguards? What do they look like? Is it worth installing on my '88?

They are integrated into the rigid "targa" portion of the top. They are just ridges that deflect the rain around the upper seal on the windows. You can just get an 89 targa roof section and it will attach to the 88 roof. Don't know how effective they are, as I only have the stock 88 version. I imagine if you got a new top, the targa cover section may even have them incorporated.

Here's a photo of the ones on my '88 with a replacement top. Personally, I feel like they force more water to the corner where it leaks easiest.

Thanks for the info. Good looking top from what I can see of it. Mine is definitely showing its age.

It's well worth it to replace your old worn one. It only cost me $700 total for the top ($300) + labor ($400) since I got the top itself off ebay. If you have a shop order a top for you, you'll generally end up paying $5-600 for it on top of the labor charges.

Are you asking if there's paint under the targa section canvas? If so...no, it's just formed plastic.
