VDI w/o air pump.

Well...

So I removed the air pump yesturday. I found the 6 ports are stuck fast. I plan on removing the LIM tomorrow in hopes of getting them free. Anyhow, what should I do with the VDI now?

I've got the 6ports down (and I have alternate means of making them work.) But is the VDI activated by the old air pump? If so by what means do I power it. Currently I the set up for the 6ports is a 12v air compressor that puts out around 12 psi. I did the searches and this one does appear to be rated for constant use. I plan on either powering the 6port actuators with air from the compressor which gets its power from a relay to rpm switch (much like, or more exactly like silverotor's plan.)

But how exactly does the VDI work? Do I just need to feed it with 2-3psi at around 5.5k rpm to activate them. Coincidentaly the VDI diafram is nice and smooth, unlike the stuck 6 ports.

Also I removed the rats nest/vac rac and am running new fuel lines.

What's the best means to open up the vdi? Just run a tee off the air compressor lines to a solenoid and then power the solienoid at 5500 rpm? It would take some plumbing to get it to work i imagine do to the fall of pressure on the 6ports when the vdi solenoid opens.

Any ideas?

The VDI and pPI systems work exactly the same way. Whatever you use to pressurise the 6PI actuators will work for the VDI actuator, just like the stock air pump normally operates both. Use the stock solenoids plugged into the stock harness to activate both systems at the correct time.

I wouldn't run 12psi to the actuators. Given the low pressures they usually work at, I doubt they'll last long. Put a tee in the line with a valve on the branch to vent some pressure out.

Personally I think it would've been a lot easier to just leave it all stock (air pump, solenoids, etc). Your new set-up won't work any better, it's just a lot more hassle.

I was planning on bleeding it down with a valve. So just run the compressor output to the two aux port actuators and than tee the line off to the VDI solenoid?

EDIT: heh, what color was the VDI solenoid?
