Vacuum Line Woes!!!
I need some help setting up my vacuum lines.
I put in my rebuilt, didn't start, so I pulled the intake manifold off and fixed the injectors. Then she started up, reved to 4 grand, and died.
So people say it was a vacuum leak. So I pulled my intake manifold again, and found that when I pulled the mani the first time, the hose that goes from the back of the TB to the oil injector vacuum spider at come off, so I put that back on.
Now I fired it up, it goes to about 1500 RPM and dies. So I start it back up and theres a huge bang noise that came out of the exhaust (no catback on, only stock dp/mp).
Now I'm lost, cause it looks like everything is connected, but it still won't idle. Can someone tell me where each of the four nipples on the back of the UIM/TB hook up to? I know one is the vacuum spider, but what are the other 3? Also, do it matter which hose goes to which nipple, or do they all do the same thing?
I ask cause the FSM vacuum diagram sucks, and for some reason I don't have the one under my hood.
89 TII BTW
Thanks guys!

The large one in the back is Brake booster, the middle sized one is Vacuum oil injector spider, The small one goes to the nipple in the middle of the oil injectors.
The front 3 go in order one to one.

No No, I know the brake booster.
But where the Oil injector spider plugs in, below that there are 2 nipples, and above it there is a nipple.
Seperate from the brake booster.

Another question while you are here.
Is there a gasket that goes around the thermostat besides the rubber ring that is on the outside of it? Like one that touches the metal surface?

Not inside the housing. the thermo just sits metal on metal. I use a little RTV myself to seal it... but others say not to. I have always done that with all my cars, and no problems yet. Now, the housing itself does have a paper gasket.

I ended up with 2. I got one when I purchased my thermostat, and I got one in my rebuild kit. Maybe a S5 doesn't use one .. but I think that part of the cars is the exact same.

Anyway, back to my real problems.
Here are the pics of all the lines I'm getting confused
1. No Clue
2. Oil Injector Vacuum Spider Nipple (Connects to #8)
3. No Clue
4. No Clue
5. Coolant Hose Nipple (Connects to #11)
6. No Clue
7. Brake Booster Hose
8. Oil Injecor Vacuum Spider Hose (Connects to #2)
9. No Clue
10. No Clue
11. Coolant Hose (Connects to #5)
Those are my guesses, and I believe the ones I filled in are correct (but correct me if I'm wrong), but the others I have no idea. If anyone knows, or has a better vacuum diagram than the FSM one, please let me know!
Thanks Again
Trying to get going for sevenstock!!

One last thing before I go to bed.
Heres exactly what happens so someone may be able to figure it out.
I turn the key, as soon as it starts to fire up, the car backfires pretty loud. Then it revs straight to 4 grand, goes back down to about 1500, and then dies.
I pulled off the UIM like 10 times and checked everything over and over. Nothing seems to be out of place. Why is it doing this to me?

10 goes to 1
9 to 3
thermostat housing on the s5 don't have a gasket...gasket only on the s4
your startup to 4k then to 1.5k then to 0 could be that you forgot to plug in the afm or that that plug is loose...(just a thought)

Ok, that is definitally in place. That was one of the first things I checked. Any other thoughts?
And I connected all the lines to the back of the TB, like you said. I actually did it last night out of guessing, and it turned out to be right.
And all my lines to my turbo, tid, etc are all in place. Im still lost to what it is.
A few mins ago I started it up, and kept it going for like 30 seconds. When it died I looked at it and it was smoking a bit from around the turbo, but I think it was just coming up from the exhasut, as I don't have the mufflers on. Is that normal for a newly rebuilt motor?
Anyway, any other ideas on what may be keeping it from starting? Since you are the first I've talked to who knows S5 TII's at all

hmmm....???
it's funny cause i just put my rebuilt motor in about week and a half ago...and the one vac i left off was the one for the evap oil that plugs into the tid...but i don't know how you have your's set up...
might want to make sure that the vac line to your bac valve is secure...
even then if it was off the car wouldn't stay running for 30 secs....
only thing i can think of is to start the car and keep your foot on the gas to keep the car going for a while (maybe a min or two) then let off and see if it will hold an idle...
withme not being there i'm stump man...
