Vacuum Hose Diameter - 3.5 or 4
I've been looking up what size vacuum hose I need to replace all my small diameter lines in a 86' N/A. What's throwing me is what size for the lines, 3.5 or 4mm. Everybody's saying different things.
Btw, I'm looking at Hose Techniques since they seem to have the best prices.
Thanks
YES I SEARCHED!

meh, NAPA will only sell SAE, and I've suprisingly never had a fittement issue with them. I take in an old line, say "I need the same ID" and they come back with a *VERY* damn close (usually smaller, which makes tighter fit) SAE ID.

You have yet to let me down Wayne, so I'm going with 3.5 . Thanks.... again.......
About how many ft did you use? I've read anywhere from 15 to 30. I was just going to go with 25 in case I make mistakes. However, I don't have much money to waste...

Dude, I've been dealing with Mazdatrix forever. They are the best bunch of guys I've ever dealt with, even Fed-Ex overnighting a package at their expense when UPS screwed me once and sent my original order half way across the country. Never had a problem with anything I've bought from them, either. They may seem expensive to some, but if you want quality parts, they're competitive compared with your Mazda dealer...
Yet another selfless plug for Mazdatrix

So far they have. I'm gonna post the email I got from Hose Techniques.
Alright, first of all, it's "your" question. Second, I didn't have just one question. Third, I KNOW WHAT GLOSSY MEANS.
>I currently own a 1986 (2nd generation) Mazda RX-7 which is riddled with
>vacuum lines, the original ones. I'm looking to replace them and have a
>question about the black hose. How does the color compare to regular rubber
>lines black color? What exactly is glossy in this case? Do you have clear
>vacuum lines?
You question is easy...........Glossy means shiny. We do not make Clear Silicone. Look at the web site for other information.

Hose techniques kit on clearance for about half price. I have the kit on my car and there was more than enough to do just about everything and still lots extra.

I've decided to go with Mazdatrix line. Wayne seems to know everything else, so I might as well go with him. That and Hose Techniques pissed me off.
Side note: Getting a tranny today, got my gasket in, HOPEFULLY I'll be able to drive the car for the FIRST time this weekend. Wish me luck.

Man, all you had to do was ask me, I would have told you, saved you a lot of time and money. Regular vacuum hose, 5/32" at autozone for 1/4 what silicone costs. Some of the cheaper silicone hose kits collapse under heat and cause more problems then they solve. You can never go wrong with traditional black rubber stuff, for usefulness or style purposes, plus it's readily available and cheap.
Oh, and that wasn't a smartass answer on their part, it was, uhm...a not-so-bright question on yours, IMO. I experience dumb *** questions on a daily basis, over the phone and via email. I have made my large, informative webpage in an attempt to combat this, but still the idiocy persists. IT is enough to drive a sane man crazy, to know that you've written all the information anyone could ever need, along with pictures, and it gets ignored anyway. To ask what color their black is, wasn't the smartest thing you could have done, IMO. It's friggen hose dude, not a paintjob on a car. It's not like it matters. You either want glossy (shiny) or standard (dull) as I see it.

But i mean, obviously Silicone hoses were made for a reason... I mean i am using traditional black rubber ones too, and true, it does work well.... but going to silicone might not be a bad idea.... what ever floats your boat....
