V8 conversion in 88 vert pics NO FLAMES PLEASE
This isnt my car its a friend of mine... you gotta understand there is really no one around here that rebuilds or even understands the rotary.. Except me But anyways, he just weight the expense of the parts for the rotary vs. the v8 and decided to go v8. He said its around 400hp, but I dunno for sure ?
But here it is and PLEASE NO FLAME WAR

hey pretty kool, i have a 88 that has a blown motor that i just got and i think i might put a v-6 in it do you have and ideas which motor to use are there any conversion kits

A V6 would probally be a time waster, the reason of putting a V8 in there is for CHEAP horsepower. The kit itself to install a piston motor into a rotary is expensive, if you are gonna do a piston swap go for the *****... Personally I love a rotary and will always have one in my car. But thats me, i must admit tho, it really sounds funny hearing an old Chevele or Camaro sound from a convertible vert...
oh by the way, swap kits are at www.grannysports.com also check www.engineswap.com
**** well maybe not, someone else have the link?

Personally, if I was going to do a V8 swap, I'd love to use a high-tech quad-cam EFI motor like a Toyota 4.0L or a Nissan 4.5L, these are awesome motors. Sorta blows the "cheap hp" idea but still...

Try www.grannysspeedshop.com for the conversion, and some pix of cars with it done. Honestly, I had considered it with mine, since it's in need of a rebuild. But, I decided to try something new to me. Hopefully I made the right choice.

If you notice there is a temp guage pinned under the windshield wiper. Hes got a full guage cluster from a 88, that has new guages in it... Just looking for someone to wire it up... Hes been pretty busy I take it...
When he started it up I was very impressed, think of an old Chevele with a big cammed up v8 straight exhaust back to mufflers then you will be close to the sound of this...
And thanx guys for bing very civil about this usually these kind of threads turn into flame wars, but I knew you guys wouldn't do me like that

YOU SUCK! and so do all V8s RAH! RAH! RAH! I hate you! My daily driver has a piston engine, and oh wait, so does my bar car. Well I still hate you and your stupid V8 RX-7; if we can even call it that anymore. You've got some nerve taking out the soul of the sportscar; and what do you do with it? Put it in a damn minivan, you bastard. Did I mention I hate you. You should've just bought a mustang and left the RX-7 for someone else. Do you know how bad you are throwing off the weight distribution?
Someone had to do it! These threads used to be fun.
That was sarcasm Bueller!

oh no you ruined the car, the only point of having an rx-7 is for the rotary, that v8 weighs like 700 pounds more than the stock engine so now it'll handle like crap, blah blah something something else...
I'm amazed at how civil this all is, too... although I notice it's usually only new people that get their hackles up, the rest of us have been through it already
