V-mount intercooler?
Are these possible in FCs? Does anyone know of a kit ?
I like the idea of un-tainted air to both the intercooler and radiator.

Is it practical? Not really. To my knowledge there is no kit. It would entail a ton of custom fab work. FD's can get away with it because of the position of the stock rad. FC rad's are virtually virtical, you would have to do alot of cutting to get it to work. Plus unless your going all out, the standard front mount option has been proven time and time and time again, on all kinds of vehicles.

Just always looked nice and a lot of the D1 cars seem to be having one. Thought there might be something behind it.
I am not too worried about high horsepower numbers any more than I am worried about detonation and an over-heating 13b.

Yeah I guess I was sorta hoping for a kit from one of the larger companies...
Eh... I can always drool over the s13-s15s and FDs with v-mounts. I think they look mighty good.

Blue TII has one on his car and it is an awesome looking setup from the pics that I've seen. I've actually been wanting to do one for quite some time now, but just haven't had the time or money to do it yet.

It was a good little diddy about drifting and D1...
It was horrible to see that article about the FD getting it fixed back up time after time only to turn a few pages and see it back into the wall.
With how many times he has crashed an FD he should give one to me. Some of you have too much money...

isnt TII's a little different, like an H-mount or something?
Yep,
The H-mount.
Horizontal mount has completely seperate inlet and outlet ducts from the radiator.
This means more air going to radiator than even a V-mount as IC has its own opening.
This also means a vented hood will only vent IC outlet and not IC outlet and radiator INLET air like a V-mount, so again more air going to radiator.
Lastly, there will be less heatsoak from heat rising out of the radiator into the IC as a heat deflecting stainless divider is the lower IC duct.
The only downside I can see to the H-mount over V-mount is that it requires more fabrication as the ducting and opening for the IC must be incorporated into the design.
It is rather easy in the FC as the front rubstrip between the turn indicators can be cut open to be used for the inlet (and cut a corresponding slot in the fiberglass bumber behind it).
Then the IC duct can be formed w/ a "cooling panel" for the top of the IC duct and the curved stainless sheet starting at the frontmost sheetmetal (even split 2 layer so you can slide the sheet in between) and the top of the radiator. Then you just need to make a triangle piece as the duct sides to seal the IC/radiator to body.
My system bolted in w/ out drilling or cutting the unibody at all. I did have to unbolt a lot of stock accesories and slot the bumper and skin, though.

Blue TII - very impressive.
That's as good as it gets.
Inlet in a high pressure area - outlet in a low pressure area.
It flows like crazy & helps keep your nose down at speed.

My V mount isn't as pretty as Blue TII's but mine is also layed out different. Mines still a work in progress I should mention but I have driven it and with out the baffeling its doing pretty good. I can't wait to see what it will be like once i duct it. I also have a custom inverted hood that i'm building out of a n/a hood but it fell over and broke, so I have to start over on it.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
I'm selling my XS "GTR" core intercooler. The way I have the endtanks, make it PERFECT for a H-mount setup or F-mount. PM me if you're seriously interested, I'm letting it go for a low price!
