usual cost on taking a n/a car to turbo spec?
friend of mine is picking up a turbo car and spare 86 roller
the roller is complete and he offered it to me for resonable enough a price for me to entertain that offer.
if the body and interior are clean enough. what is the usual cost of parts to take a na to a full turbo car, drivetrain and all.
if i were to do this it would be a long drawn out process of building it right.
i do most of my internet stuff off of my not so internet friendly phone so i cant really spend the time to look it up right now.
any useful educated answer is very much appreciated

Get ready for around 2-4 grand (possibly more if you are coming from a 4 lug) just on drivetrain and suspension components if you are going to do it right.
Now add all the engine components, turbo piping, ect.... All this does not include all the labor you are going to spend tearing things apart, the time spent looking for random things, ect.
It can be done cheap, but this is why everyone will tell you its much easier to just get a TII. The base is already there.

Easy to get a TII,.But where the hell is the FUN of building your OWN car,up from Scratch?
..you become well acquainted with the car,Know every nut and bolt, and know that the Car is a "part of your Efforts".
.Can you Say JOB WELL Done?.if you buy a TII from Craigslist???NO!
Screw the already Built TII..build your own!...about 2-5 k,,depending on Where and who you get your parts from, and if you want NEW or Used Parts when building it.

I spent about 5k on mine. My motor w all the sensors + trans was 1500. Driveshaft was 125, rear end was 400 (ouch.. paid waayy too much for that one). While everything was out, I painted it all with Por15, replaced the mounts with delrin + tried to get new everything along the way. But IMHO, money well spent.
I was also sand bagging it + waited for parts for a long while too - it took me about all summer to finish it as well. But you could probably do everything I did if you have parts in a few weeks tops. With a buddy.

Do a search about JDM engines....you can get one for around 1k to 1.5k but it's going to come no warranty/as-is. They might cold compression test it, they might not. While you are searching do one for cold compression tests...they aren't very reliable. The engine could arrive and you might need a rebuild before you can use it.
Don't count on using the JDM ECU or harness. Do a search and you'll find that many people have problems getting them to work on JDM swaps and end up getting a USDM ECU. JDM harness is going to be RHD so it won't be a direct swap.
Not trying to **** in your fish tank, just giving you some ideas what you're looking at.

I don't think you can put a price on it because in the end a stock TII is boring as **** and you will want to modify it some.
You'll want a new exhaust, EMS upgrade (whether standalone or addons), boost controller, injectors, etc. which all depend on your goals and your budget. For a mid-low 200whp I would guess $2000-4000 depending on how devoted you are to saving money (by doing research, visiting the F/S section, custom fabrication). It is an old car so you will want to add some new/aftermarket stuff like synthetic fluids and new mounts in the drivetrain for example which make the total cost very hard to estimate.

That's the way I'm going to do it. I found an 89 TII on The Craig for $700! complete car with a rebuild-able motor pulled, but included. Perfect!!!
"Honey, I need $700 to buy another car..."
"Okay, but you have to get the money from selling some of the others. We don't have it now."
Always the way it goes. When I have a bug chunk of cash for my toys. Everything is priced high. No good deals at all. The moment money it tight, Killer deal right in front of you.
I hate Murphy's Law. More than I hate Day Light Savings.
Sorry didn't meant to rant. too many margaritas.
Buy a donor and have the motor built while you collect parts.
