used s5 rotor & housing and my build

Hi guys, i have been looking around pretty much everywhere i can for a used s5 rotor and housing. an apex seal went out in the rear rotor of my 89 n/a and it gouged the crap out of the housing and the rotor, then jammed itself between the housing and rotor and seized up the engine. that was a bad day. lol. but since im down there anyways... i ordered atkins rotary rotor rebuild and engine rebuild kits, new side seals, fidanza 8lb flywheel and counterweight, stage 3 CM clutch & pressure plate, pineapple racing large streetport template and racing beat race exhaust port templates, summit porting kit, drilled/slotted front rotors, and ceramic pads on all 4 corners. just before the engine went, and since i live in florida and have no emissions , a header back 3" mandrel bent dual exhaust w/ no cats. i had to get silencers for the cans though cause it was loud as hell after i finished the exhaust. (was spitting fire every time i downshifted... that is cool sometimes but other times it just gets u in trouble ) and a short ram intake w/ a cold air box.

i removed my 6 port sleeves and am just going to leave them open because my air pump froze up on me... im currently trying to find a thread on what has to come out when removing the thing...

it has 2 boston accoustic 5.25's in the doors, 2 rockford fosgate 6.5's and tweeters in the back towers and 1 orion xtr 10" in the back w/ 500 rms going to it. it has the best sound quality of any system ive done so far

so anyways...... i emailed rotary resurection to get the parts, and they responded saying that they could get me the rotor and the housing, and then i emailed them back... 5 days ago.. and i still havent gotten a response back. i have heard a lot of good stuff about them but if there is anywhere else that could get me a used rear housing and rotor for my s5 for roughly $300 i would buy there. i just need the parts like last week because the rebuild needs to be done by the end of the month. my uncle is out of town till then and wont let me have the garage when he gets back on july 2nd. my aunt is letting me do it there because w/ him out of town she has extra room out there. if anyone has a site or friend or connection that could help me find a new rotor and housing it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

barakelium

ps: sorry the post is so long, it really should have been 2 separate posts.

I think that s4 and s5 housings are the same (please correct me if I am wrong) only the rotors are different. I was told that some scratches in a rotor can be polished out, but housings have to be in good shape (no scratches.)

It makes sense to me, since the rotor does not actually contact the housing, the apex seal does.

Grooves in the rotor could cause preignition (sharp points are hot spots.)

Damaged apex or side seal grooves will ruin the rotor.

The only reason I said/asked all this was because N-A housings are readily available on ebay, while s5 rotors are more rare.

ty for the info. i honestly dont know if the s4 housings are the same as the s5... but you are right about the rotors being different. i believe they are lighter or somthing. but when i said it was gouged, i mean like 1" long by a cm wide and like 2mm deep at multiple points on 2 sides of the rotor. its f'd. lol i cant find any used s5 rotors for under $200

thanks for your fast reply man... seriously it was like 20 mins. =) i was outside painting my center iron. i just finished porting the intakes on them all 2 days ago and began paining them a sweet looking high temp blue.

thanks

the n/a S4 and S5 housings are the same. But you can not use the turbo housings into and n/a engine because the water ports at the exhaust are differents.

incorrect, the spark plug timing is different between s4 and s5 engines turbo and n/a. you can use a turbo rotor housing in a non turbo build but you will need to match the exhaust port sleeves for your build and you will also have to press a freeze plug into the water port or seal it up another way.

good luck with getting things back together by your set date, sometimes it's not a good thing to be in a hurry, like when building an engine for the first time.
