Use sealant between UIM/LIM

I was wondering If i should use sealant between the manifolds. I just pulled them off to replace the oil lines and do some "spring cleaning". I heard that the sealant cures and becomes slippery, but have no heard any definite answer after searching.

Thanks,
Mike

just put some rtv along with your old gaskets or if you can afford it, get new ones.

I've heard the same thing you have. I've used rtv before but won't again. Just make sure the gasket is new or at least newer and that both surfaces are clean, maybe even use a little bit of sand paper to clean both surfaces.

If you're reusing the old gasket, RTV makes sense...Just make sure it's cured before you start her up...the red stuff will stand up to the heat a little better than black or gray...

Yep I agree, if they are the same gaskets, RTV for sure. If they're new and the flanges are free of old gasket, torque it to spec without the RTV and you'll be fine.

I don't use RTV anymore either becuase of two things.

First off, its a pain to clean off of metal sometimes, just more work.
Second, when I took my intake **** off for the second time after using it, the RTV had squeezed out into the intake and formed little RTV o-rings that were hanging by a thread. A little spirited driving and im sure it would have gone right into the engine. Times this by 8 little o-rings that had formed and im sure you'd have some problems.
