Update: replaced water thermo sensor
i replaced my water thermo sensor and went around the neighborhood for a short drive.. nothing seemed to change. so i got back home and checked to see that i had it plugged in correctly, i discovered that i didnt have the sensor plugged in all the way so the contacts weren't touching.
note: when i unplugged the old water thermo sensor, the plastic plug slid right off of the wire leaving the contacts bare. i thought, "oh well, i'll just hook up the contacts to the sensor plug"
so i hooked up the plug to the bare contacts and readjusted the TPS why i already had the intercooler off, why not.
i got the TPS adjusted and plugged the shiny new water thermo sensor into the harness.
i get in the car. *crank* *crank* *crank* *crank* no start..
i then say, "what the F" and go unplug the sensor.
*crank* *crank* vrooomm smooth idle.
so after the car is running for a minute, i plug the sensor into the bare leads coming off the harness (while the car was running) and everything seemed fine.
so i drive up to the gas station which is about a 2 mile drive, and i get there and pull up to a ricer in an RS eclipse with a big *** aluminum wing and my car starts to idle like ****; really low, really lumpy.
so the ricer looks at me like, "whoa, a turboII" pointing out my turboII sticker to his friend.
so i get out and pull the plug to the new water thermo sensor and the idle smooths out and everything is normal again.
whats the deal here? could i have had the sensor plugged in with the plug connected backwards or something? who would imagine that installing a *new* sensor would **** up my car?

Could be just a wack *** thermo sensor. I have bought new stuff that didn't work right out of the box. Why did you change it in the first place? Did the one you replaced work at all?
