Update on the "no-haggle" dealership drama. :D
I don't know if anyone remembers when I was asking about that 88 SE, but it had 99k miles, ran good, everything worked, but it had some rust issues around the wheel wells, and they wanted $4,000 for it.
Well, they've since called back a couple of times, first to tell me that "other people were taking serious interest in it, and that they would put me in contact with the previous owner if I wanted. Well, my boss's buddy works at the dealership and runs their garage, and did some research for me and it looks like I'm the only one that has actually taken it out for a test drive and one of only a handful that has actually asked anyone about it at the dealership in the month and 1/2 they've had it.
I got a call two weeks ago and they dropped the price to $2,500 and to this day, still have it. It's definatly alot better price, I do need to check compression and a few other things if I were to go for it, but I think I'm going to wait to see if they drop it any more.
I'd like to get a GTU, but the more I think about it, I don't really need the extra features, and what I would get I could add anyways. The LSD isn't that big of a deal right now, but I'd put one in if I were to start doing SCCA events (which I really want to at some point), and the manual windows = no chance of having to screw with the power ones going out. It does have a power sunroof though, so that's cool.
Ok, the only thing that's making me apprehensive is the engine that's in this particular chassis. Isn't the S4 or the S5 engines that have "13b Injected" scrawled across the throttle body? This one had it, so I'm thinking it's an S5 engine in a S4 chassis, which is odd, and makes me worry.
Well, we'll see what happens I guess. $2,200 in tax returns just hit my bank account, so I'm ready to jump if they drop it lower.

That's a lot of money for an S4 N/A. Crap I got one I'll sell you right now for $2200 in great shape, '87 base in nice shape. Paint in really good shape, interior has had some pieces replaced so they're all intact & working properly (all the electricals even seem to work, minus the idiot lights which are intermittent). 103,000 miles, only thing I can think of is it can use a new clutch pretty soon.

the engine? the dynamic chamber is different shaped, that's the part with the writing on it and is easily the most visable part. the S5 has 4 runners coming out the driver side of it. the S4 chamber is a box that vents the air down into the next manifold without the runners on the drivers side.

Sorry, I was too lazy to resize. You can also see the wear around the door handle there, which looks really odd to me, but .

I paid $2000 for my 88 SE.
117k, minor exterior damage (clearcoat damage, dings, rust around the wheel wells) but otherwise in awesome shape. The only work I've had to do was change the clutch slave and the battery. Everything else is in great condition, engine is strong as an ox. I think I am the first person to really open it up.
I would give another $100-300 to have 20k mi less on my engine, wouldn't you?

Urizen. That car is at Apple Valley Ford right ? I saw that ad a little after I picked up my S4. I paid 3k, and it had 68k miles on it, a little bit of rust, but otherwise perfect. When they were asking like 4k I thought that was nuts, but for 2k it might be alright. I would see if they go lower, and if not, you could always get a better deal somewhere else.

I have read your previous posts and still think you should hold out for a better deal. As you mentioned the GTU, in my opinion is a much better choice 5 lug, better brakes, LSD, power mirrors, wing . or even a GXL.
The only reason I bring this up is if you wait a little you will find what you are looking for. Example one of my sevens got stolen and I began to look for a new one I found a mint 88GTU for $1700 all it needed was a new drive shaft. Have patience you will find what you are looking for.
P.S. thats still way too much for a car with rust on it.

Dont buy the SE.
I am starting to feel the ware of mine.
The seat is getting uncoftorable, the lack of features and 5 spoke lugs are making upgrades more expensive.
Stop and dont even THINK about buying it. Find what you REALY want.
And dude.... the S5 has a completly different intake manifold- the S4 has a riged one with 13B fuel injection written/sunk a little into it.

For someone that dosent know alot about rx7's- $2 grand is about what I would pay.
Im re selling mine for $1500 or abouts.
But seriously I have that exact car in my driveway. Minus the dents (from when I bought it) and a tear in my drives seat- its the SAME car .
Im selling mine for a GTU or a TII because you get bored quick with the base models when you have a limited budget and want to do upgrades.

S4 GTU and S5 GTU are completely different.
The S4 GTU is a real GTU while the S5 one is just a renamed base model.
Believe me that you will get tired of the SE since it's base. The 4 lug single piston part really dampens your ability to upgrade without doing some swaps.
Try and hold out until they go to 2k. Then it would be worth buying.
When I did my turbo conversion all I had to do is drop the engine in. I have everythign else the turbo has(except the weight )

I'm still going to hold back, and at least call them and let them know I'll take it for... 1800 maybe.
