sure........................

Are you asking about the practice of unsoldering a wire and replacing it or are you asking if the Voltages/power requirements are different

If you wnat to know about the first one, than yes, People reflow solder all the time and replace components

If you are asking it the power is different................

Yes, Its called "Reflowing the solder" Put the Solder iron right agains the ball of Solder and wait 8, 9, 10 then the solder should soften and you gently pull it apart. Resoldering is jsut the opposite. Put the wire on the connector with a ball of solder and wait until the componnets warm up enought to flow the solder.

How about that. I always thought the wires to the alternator plug were crimped on, not soldered on. Oh well, learn something new everyday.

Actually, you could get two pieces of wire and crimp on a male and a female spade on each end and connect one end of each new wire to the existing connector and the other end to the jack on the alternator. But then again that wouldn't be right because>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Putting a series 5 alt on a series 4 requires that the one wire, the existing black/white wire be connected to a source of 12vdc that is not a *switched* 12vdc source.

I think JRAT addressed this in a thread a month or two ago.......plus a few others. You might look in the FAQ. But then again, you probably know that already.

Sorry, it's J-RAT, and the thread is https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...ght=alternator

None of the stock connectors are soldered. They are all crimped.

However if yours has been soldered in the past, check out http://www.aaroncake.net/electronics/desolder.htm

Crimp on the new connector after thoroughly packing it with dielectric grease. It's easier to make a passable crimp then it is a good solder joint if you don't know what you're doing.
