unbolting exhaust?
I'm unbolting my exhaust, but the metal pipe coming from the cat and goes into a rubber hose is confusin me.( i'm assuming this actuates the 5th&6th ports) When i unbolt the exhaust what do i do with it, do i just unclamp it from the rubber hose or do i have to do something else? Any help it appreciated.

I am going to put on another exhaust but it's gonna take a while to get it, i was gonna drive it without it until then. So its ok to just leave the rubber hose open? I just wanted to make sure it wasn't necessary to keep it runnin.

on the S4 (86-88) engines, the tube coming up from the main cat allows back pressure to operate the 5/6 ports. I don't know what exhaust you are getting, but my racing beat exhuast has the tube on it so you can still use the 5/6 ports, but it has a block off plate for the air control valve so you can remove it and the air pump. If you have a 89 or newer car, it works different.

How do you figure? You gain nothing from it that you won't have with working ports.
To the original poster-Don't cut the hose off don't clamp it. I suggest you get the RB pre-silencer for part of your exhaust this maintains the backpressure needed for them to oppen and it is straight through in design xso you don't loose much in high end. If you don't want to do that then find another way to make them open. You will only loose from havine them in one position. You goine NOTHING from wiring them open you only LOOSE low end and keep the high end all of us have.
