Type I or Type II miata LSD?
hey everyone, i am pretty sure i want the miata LSD in my nafc and im wondering which of the two miata lsds are better for all out grip. as far as i understand the type I is more active under acel and the type II is biased to work under decel but works on accel too. i suppose this means that the type I will lock up during accel and be open on decel, and the type II will lock up on acel and decel. which is gona be best for grip, and why? thanks for your help!

If they're torsen, they dont work under the same premise of 1 or 1.5 or 2 way lock up which is what you're describing.
I believe the primary difference is going to be the TBR (torque bias ratio).

i thought about it for awhile, and everyone i talked to told me to go for torsen since torsen works when you need it to. i dont fully understand quite how clutch would feel different, but ive heard the torsen doesnt let you get sideways.

Well clutch type LSD work just like the way it sounds. It locks and unlock. And it would try to sent power to both wheels at the same time. Which means that no matter if any or both of wheel have traction or not it would sent the same amount of power to it. But torsen would just try to bias the torque to the wheel that has the most grip. But if you have no grip with both wheels it would be confused. Or it wont sent power to any of the wheels. Torsen are the best of track racing. Since it would stay open unless there is slipage. It would make turn in and turn out more stable. But if you are turning with a clutch type lsd under acc. It would lock up both wheels causing oversteer. If any of the info is wrong please correct me!

thanks for the info, but can anyone tell me the difference between type I and II torsen miata lsds. i got it figured out that i want the miata lsd i just gota know about the characteristics of the types- and which is better for grip. thanks

dude, its the tbr. Torque bias ratio. Just type torque bias ratio + torsen on google and theres detailed engineering reports which are far more comprehensive then anyone can explain on the forum.
And since they're miata differentials, I think the miata forum would be a little more apt to give you the driving characteristics of each then an rx7 forum.
