Turbocharged NA runs! Video Inside!
The gods were smiling upon me this afternoon, and not only stopped the rain, but provided a wonderful treat: the car started the first time...
I filled her up with coolant and oil, then checked for leaks...Didn't find any yet, but that doesn't mean that a few won't turn up in a few days. I just hope that I don't have to remove that oil pan again as it was a nightmare the first time.
I then jumpered the test connector and primed the fuel system. The FD pump made some weird noises as it primed itself, but quieted down as soon as it was moving actual fuel...I freaked for a second as I heard some hissing in the engine bay, but after inspection I could not find any leaks...Perhaps it was simply air being passed through the system?
The S-AFC was then set up after that...It was pretty easy actually, and a sensor check revealed that everything was working as it should.
I pulled the EGI fuse, and cranked the engine until it registered some sort of oil pressure. Very little actually, which had me worried for a sec. I decided to go for broke, put the fuse back in, and started her up...
After cranking a few seconds, the engine cought and promptly spewed out a cloud of white smoke impressive enough to catch the attention of several neighbours....While the engine ran, I checked for leaks and anything obviously wrong...I now know that the fuel system is definitly not leaking since I can neither see nor smell any gas.
I have not yet adjusted any settings on the S-AFC aside from what is required to start the car...So everything is set at 0% compensation. Therefore, the car is running on the raw TII injectors, backed by an FD fuel pump....I'm thinking it's running rich. I will tune the S-AFC as soon as I am sure everything is working alright...
Now, before I ramble on any further, here are the videos I promised. Each one is a few minutes in length, compressed in DivX format. If you cannot play them, go to the DivX website and download the codec before you complain they don't work. It's probably best to "right click, save as" instead of opening them directly.'
Overview of the engine in it's completed form
Exterior view of the car starting and running
Interior view of the car starting and running
And yes, the car is named "Tina". TII + NA = TIINA = Tina. Get it?
I will be driving it work tomorrow, and for that matter, to the shop to buy a new lock actuator. In a day or two I will be changing the oil and filter on the chance that it has picked up any crud....
Now, I have not actually driven the car yet. I will do that tomorrow morning. I don't want to push my luck today.

You Got PROPS!!!!!!!!!!!
having done what many of us had dreamed, but instead
we bought a TII, I'd really like to see the torque curve, having those 2 extra ports should help out alot

No it doesn't - it's a stubborn SOB.  I've gone through that + the write-up on the Net about how to remove it, and oddly enough it always seem to pop back on (coming through something else?).  I regularly check the system registry with RegEdit, and that **** pops back on almost regularly almost every month...

Ted: You sure? I used AdAware to remove all of it, and it has not come back on my system...Perhaps it's a version thing.

I really like his commentary. Especially when he's like uhm, now what view should I give you while I start it, and then his discovery that the numbers on the S-AFC didn't show up well on the camera, was definatly funny. Congrats aaron, make some boost!

The downloads have been so slow because tonnes of people have been grabbing the videos...Just be patient, and you'll get them.
So I drove the car to work today, and aside from the smoke created as all the extra oil burnt off, there were no problems...
On the way back from lunch I boosted the car to about 3 PSI, and the A/F guage was still way in the rich...This thing rocks! 3 PSI too it from 40 to 100 (KM) faster than I could look over to the guage...Or at least, pretty quickly...
Getting hesitation around 4K, so it looks like the secondaries may not be firing properly. I'll have to check that pretty soon.

Get Download accelelerator, or something comperable.
They open up multutiple pathways, even on a single server.
I downloaded the first video in 4 minutes, and 50k was the slowest I've seen in a long time- normaly I get around 300k! I just downloaded the divx bundle- 3 megs, in 5 seconds.
Nice job aaron.... DO you have correction on the S_AFC yet?
I bet you any money you are over-richening at 4000...
I'm surprised it idles with no correction yet on those 550s', mine just barely did.
Nice job! What are you going to do with youself now that it's done???
How bout your own engine managment system

The car idled well at 1K with the 550s pretty well...But it was very rich. I have the S-AFC turned down to -20% at 1K for the low throttle map, which is still quite rich...Tried -35%, but the car just stalled...LOL...I'll have to tune the idle at little tonight...Probably find that around -27% will do it.
There are no other corrections besides the idle. I would imagine the 4K problem is simply the engine flooding out as the injectors switch over...It really fell flat on it's face when I took it to 4K...
Also, I just came back from a service call, and hit about 4PSI boost...getting a little closer to the orange, so I'll probably increase fuel in the high throttle range after 4K....
As for my next project...well, that's going to be an interesting one...

Uh, I just looked at the first segment- the "engine overview"
Nice job with the #1 finger to all the off-the-self "fabbers" out there.
But it looks like you maybe had a bit of a tune going..... had a couple of pops to celebrate?
Just looked like you had to use the wall for a second to keep yourself up LOL!!!
Hey- one more thing you need to get on tape is your working quarters! I serisouly give you credit for installing a turbo in a garage not much bigger than the car itself!!
Having to jump over the rear panel just to get in and out is pretty sweet...
I knew it would start!!

I bet this thread would be 15 pages long right now if it didn't start! I'll admit that I didn't think it would start on the first shot; but I did believe it would run after a few tries. It's funny how most people only come out of the woodwork to shoot someone down; but are nowhere to be found when things go right.
Looks like you did a great job Aaron.

Aaron riding in that car today was the most kickass experience ever! When we were driving it sounded sweet, hope you get it tuned soon, so you can kick the guy with the Firebird's ***!
