Turbo Upgrade Recommendation - FC
Hi everyone:
I would like to upgrade my stock TII turbo with a bigger turbo. I would like to go a little bigger and something with a ball bearing turbo and keep my stock intercooler. What do you guys recommend turbo wise?
Many thanks,
Serge

+1 for BNR, but these are not BB. if you want BB than you should get a garrett GT series. simply the most proven BB turbos out there. IMHO, a GT35R would be great for a 13BT, depending on how much you value spool vs maw power

Thanks a lot guys!
I'm not looking to go over ~ 12 PSI boost so that's not really an issue. I was hoping to be able to get close to 300HP using the stock TII intercooler. The BNR turbos look like a good option, especially price wise. I also like the idea of the GT35R. My budget for the turbo is approx $1000 and I will consider going with a FMIC if it makes sense to do so.
Thanks again,
Serge

$1000 isn't a lot of money, so the BNR hybrids are probably your best choice. You're pushing it trying to make 300HP reliably on the stock intercooler because with the stock ECU, you only have rough control over the fuel and no control over the timing. There are ECU upgrades like the RTek that may help you in this case.
Boost level is irrelevant, so don't operate under the thought that 12 PSI is a magic number or something.
A GT35R is a complete turbo upgrade which means all the extras are required such as standalone, front mounted intercooler, much larger injectors, exhaust, etc. etc.

BNRs are great turbos, for what they are. just like J-rat said, they are a little laggy, but as far as bang-for your-buck and ease of install etc, there the way to go. like i said tho, there not BB (something you specified in post 1). if you do use a garrett GT-series or alike, just like aaron said, you need a mani, WG, dp, etc. its not drop in like a hybrid. for yourpower goals, a stage 2 or 3 would be great. i think BNR claims ~300RWHP on the stage 1, but i think alot of guys have seen much less. search 'BNR dyno' in the 2nd gen section, theres a whole threead of what ppl made with BNRs.
either way, keep in mid that at 300whp, you need to be thinking of other upgrades than just the turbo, specifically fuel mods.

yea, unless you have a custom manifold the 35R won't be anywhere near the stock top mount. most aftermarket manifolds will place the turbo a bit forward. if all you want is 300, the 35R is overkill but it is an awesome turbo. I love mine, just not the costs. BNR stage 2 will get you 300, at minimal cost. you can combat the lag(to a point) with a good boost controller.
