turbo removal tip

Im still in the process removing my turbo, i already read the FSM and talk to stan about, it seem simple until doin the actual work. I need some advice of removing the turbo while the precat is in the way n the turbo blocking the manifold.
Air pump, ACV, heat shield, intake box and duct remove, coolant drained. Rite now I am stuck on my final stage of removal of the turbo. I cant get into spots that i need to unbolt, you can ask fuster, he was helping me out.

That's not a contradiction, you just hate yourself lol.

Good luck with the removal, I have to take the precat off sometime next week for a down pipe (yesssssss)

I removed Downpipe... got that out of the way undud the 2 bolts that are easy to get at... the front right hand side bolt (when looking from the passenger side) is easy... the only other bolt that is hard to get off is the far right hand side bolt how it is tucked underneath there, just get a small mirror and put your wrench on it! sorry i might have made it so easy! but i did take off the TID and the air filter.. and i didn't drain the coolant just plugged the line to the turbo.. But take your exhaust off if you haven't already! or just the pre cat anyway... a hoise really helps too

to get that top DP bolt off, i recommend a 90bender and several extensions so you can put the bender on the end and extend it way down to give you enough room and leverage...worked perfectly and that was the same thing giving me a problem. gl man.

also go here and follow his tips and the link in that thread if you have any more questions...those are what i used to help me along.

Unbolt the precat from the turbo, but do not remove it. You really don't need to.

To get to the turbo-to-manifold nuts, go under the car. If you look up from like, right underneath the engine mount..you can see the nuts. 3 of them are easy, but the last one (top right) can be kinda hard to get to. Bend the turbo-coolant line out of the way, and just reach up in there with a wrench.

If you have someone to help, have them go under the car and literally "pull" the exhaust backwards, to get the precat out of your way. Otherwise...

.. The precat will be holding it on with the studs. Take a strong + long (haha..) screwdriver, and jam it into the space between the precat and the hotside of the turbo. Use the turbo as leverage, and pull the precat off. While holding the screwdriver with your left hand, use your right to lift the turbo off and up. Now just slide it out of the engine bay

Which two bolts did you take out so far? Two of them you can reach on top pretty straight fowardly, and the one on bottom you have to go under the car and work your way in there with an open end. Hope that helps.

Easy shiz....after you've done it once. Good advice above......gotta get rid of the downpipe (pre-cat). It'll open it up where you can actually work.

Ok. Imagine you are looking AT the hotside.

------3-------

Which one is it?

Number 2 is easy to get out. Yeah.

Number 1, if you want it to be super easy, remove the o2 sensor. After that, you can just stick an open-end in, and tap it with a hammer once. Should be able to do the rest by hand.

Number 3..jack up the car, open end, done.

I got all mine off without getting under the car :P
