Turbo removal results

First off, all those people that say its an easy 2 hour job to remove the turbo on a FC must be mechanics with a lift and 5000 bucks worth of snap-on tools.

I decided to remove the turbo on my '87 because of a nasty exhaust leak. Ended up being the turbo/manifold gasket had blown out.

The exhaust manifold is in good shape and isn't cracked at all.

The turbo flange, unfortunately, has a couple of good size cracks. Picture below...

I was planning on sending this thing in to BNR Supercars for the stage one, but I'm worried the gasket will continue to blow out because of these cracks.

Any opinions? Experience?

Find a used manifold or find discount parts dealer.

Its not the manifold.. its the turbo flange.

It just takes practice! The first time I took the turbo and intake manifold off my 12AT (in the garage on stands, normal tools) it took several hours. Because of a few “problems” (long story...), the third time took only 1.5 hours to remove and replace the lot!

One day I’ll have to post some pics of the turbine housing I pulled off and replaced. You haven’t seen cracked ‘til you’ve seen this baby...

yah it's not bad at all. those are the cracks of a 30k mile turbo. the 89 turbo is way easier to r&r but it should still be about 2 hours, and i dont even jack the car up.

A jack to get underneath to just get at the lower nut on the downpipe and the upper rear nut - the rest of the nuts and can be accessed from the top with extensions and u-joints.&nbsp No heat shields make for a 1 hour MAX removal - I do it an average of 45 minutes now talking my time...
