so GT35R or so sort of GT35 seems to be the consensus. What about wastegate? will my wastegate choice affect spool or response? thanks for all the stuff so far.

On a rotary engine youre going to run it at lower boost ratios than you would on a piston engine. Youre also going to tune it much more conservatively than you could on a piston engine by virtue of what happens if you knock them.
Not trying to be a smartass but thats the only reason I can think of, lol. Case in point, people get JY Holset turbos and put them on unported 2.3s with a stock cam and just huff 30 psi on them with a FMIC. If you knock, youre cool if you catch it and lay off the boost and go home and retune a bit, instead of going up a hill for 30 mins hot under boost sounding like your car is a rock tumbler. You cant be that hard on a Rotary.

Perfect to me is a turbo that spools right off idle, pulls all the way to redline, and is capable of flowing 500hp in a 13BT - no such thing.
I have first-hand experience with the GT35R, and I like what it offers and how it spools.
Therefore, anything smaller than that I consider "too small".

Top efficiency is right about 2.3 to 2.4 pressure ratio.
So, to hit that spot, you need to be boosting about 18 to 19psi?
At that spot, it's flowing about 28 lb / min.
So with a 13B, it's barely producing about 300hp.
Pushing it to the limit, the turbo runs out of breath around 2.8 PR (around 27psi) and flowing about 35 lb / min or a little under 400hp.
Are you willing to run almost 30psi of boost?
A T04E "57" will produce about similar numbers.
I bet the GT32R costs a LOT more...

Hey can anyone help me I.D. this turbo I have?? I will be posting a thread with pix later on.
It's a small garret with a T4 flange and we pulled it off a n/a S4 after the motor lost compression. It looks like a small T4 or something but I'm not familiar with turbos as far as being able to look at one and ID it. The guy we got it from said he thinks it was a TD06.
On the N/a it was running 13.90's all day at the track when we took it and it was at 15 psi. it was lagging until about 3200rpm. I think the fuel was stock except for an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Yeah we blew it up at the track but the whole car was only $500.

The "R" denotes ball bearing center.
That eBay listing does not explicitly state it's ball-bearing nor it's a real "R" GT-series.
I'd expect a real "R" GT-series is over $1,000...
I paid $1200 for a GT2871R, so there is no way a bigger turbo is going to cost almost HALF of that. :P

As a matter of fact, I just took a ride in a Holset powered TII last night. Quite an interesting experience. I believe the turbo he is running is the H1E, and for a big turbo, it sure spools fast! As far as technical reasons, there are none. The turbo he has is T4 footprint, divided. Installs the same as any other turbo.
These turbos can be found on EBay for about 200 bucks. Its an option I am looking at.
