Do you let your car idle for a couple minutes befor you turn it off? If you have a turbo timer how long do you let it idle? If your stopping to get gas do you turn your car off? Sorry about all the questions me and my friend were having an argument about turning your car off befor filling your gas up or to keep it on to save time an such.

If you have been driving the car somewhat hard, just let it idle for a minute before you turn it off, or longer depending on how much and how long you've been beating on it. And I would think you should always turn your car off before filling up?

I've talked to more than a few turbo experts who have said that with a water and oil cooled turbo there is no real need to let it cool down. If your turbo is oil cooled only however it's a different story.
With the stock turbo just make sure your not on boost then shut it off right away. Drive not on boost for a couple minutes before you stop and that should be more than enough.

BTW, both of the above responses are based on my aviation experience with turbine engines and something called "hot refueling", which is risky, even with good grounding and controlled conditions.

you can't walk away from the car with it running anyways or the stock alarm won't go on. so you have to sit there anyways. defeating the purpose of it. just leave the key in for another 20 secs. I just leave my key in for 30 secs. take them out and hit power on the timmer right after so It's not even used.
however it does have it's uses. like parking infront of the bank. taking the keys out and locking the door. going to the ATM. and comming back without having to restart a min later

sold--no longer in debt
my stock alarm is messed up anyways, well the drivers door switch is anyways, it thinks the door is always closed, so i cant arm my alarm unless the pass door is open.. so i never end up arming my alarm so i just let the turbo timer do its thing

Turbos with water-cooled centers run much cooler than older ones without water cooling, so unless you're really stupid and shut down straight after hard driving, the turbo's temp at shut down is not high enough to "boil" the oil and leave carbon deposits, which older turbos could do.

my turbo timer ranges from 30 seconds to 5 minutes(racing and long drives). The alarm on my 7 gets activated when I lock my driver's side doorwhich locks my other door. I hear a beep and I close the door while holding the handle, and 30 seconds later I hear a second beep telling me the alarm is armed.
